and if New Paltz sweeps Oneonta, New Paltz is in if the tie breaking procedures are by head to head, then 9 innings, New Paltz would be 7-7, Oswego 7-7, NP won the 9 inning game vs. Oswego.... can't count them out

Bob Maxwell

That is correct...  there are three possibilities.

Oneonta, Oswego or New Paltz...

And SUNYIT takes a game or two from Plattsburgh and there are even more scenarios...

;D

Plattsburgh clinched at least a #4 seed, if they get swept, they would be 7-7, they have the tie breaker over Oswego (7-7) and NP even if NP sweeps, if Plattsburgh takes 1 game from IT and Oneonta splits or is swept, they are the 3, if Oneonta sweeps and Plattsburgh splits, Oneonta is 3, Plattsburgh is 4

New Paltz:::
In with: a sweep of Oneonta

Oswego:::
In with: a split of Oneonta and NP

Oneonta:::
In with: a sweep over NP

... thats if the tie breaking procedure is done by who won the 9-inning game, if its run differential or how they fared against the teams ahead of them, then I don't know how it works and I can't find anything online with the tie-breaking procedures in the SUNYAC, it would be nice if they posted it somewhere

The games between Plattsburgh and SUNYIT has been pushed
back. The start time is not known att.

John McGraw

SUNYAC.com has Plattsburgh-SUNYIT starting at 11:00 AM.

The weather looks like a storm is moving through Utica right now. Once the storm's gone, they'll be smooth sailing the rest of the day weatherwise.

I'd guess they'll start around 12:30 PM or 1:00 PM

Bob Maxwell

Game #1:
Oneonta 5
New Paltz 2

Bob Maxwell

Game #1:
Plattsburgh 9
SUNYIT 1

Looks like same four as the last two years, just with different matchups.

Bob Maxwell

That is unless New Paltz gets mad about being eliminated and wins the second game... then Oswego slips into #4.

Bob Maxwell

Game #2:
Oneonta 4
New Paltz 3

John McGraw

Sunday scores...

Plattsburgh 9 SUNYIT 1
Plattsburgh 13 SUNYIT 5

Oneonta 5 New Paltz 2

Final standings

Cortland 11-3; Brockport 9-5; Plattsburgh 9-5; Oneonta 8-6; Oswego 7-7; Fredonia 6-8; New Paltz 5-9; SUNYIT 1-13
*Brockport and Plattsburgh split the season series. Brockport defeated first-place Cortland twice; Plattsburgh defeated Cortland once, therefore Brockport is the higher seed and home team in the 10:00 am Friday morning game.

I think this is a good draw for cortland if they can win the first game. Everyone seems to have a pretty good 1 and 2 on the mound but if cortland and brockport both win avoiding b'ports #1 is key, he is pretty good! I think cortlands pitching staff will be the reason they win if in fact they do win the sunyac. I think this was a very even year throughout the conference and it shows with the records that the teams had.
Who will start thet 1st games for everyone? Cortland-Dougher, Jweid, Zgorlelski, Brockport-Denstadt(sp), Maxwell, Oneonta?, Plattsburgh?
Any insight?

Brockport - Casey Scott...Maxwell and Dennstedt are the aces of the staff. But both were hit hard by Plattsburgh in their doubleheader. Coach Rowland can afford to rest both of them and throw Scott, who's having a great year and who Plattsburgh hasn't seen. Even if they lose, they'd still have both Maxwell and Dennstedt available.

Cortland - Mike Zgorzelski...Pitched well against Oneonta earlier this month. Coach Brown may want to save Dougher for Brockport. Jweid might be an option too because he didn't pitch against Oneonta.

Oneonta - Erik Weber...Most success of the current Oneonta pitchers against Cortland hitters. Tom Locke had been pitching well against Cortland before getting hammered for five runs and 10 hits a few weeks ago in a 5-3 loss to C-State.

Plattsburgh - Matt Dahlin...Fifth year senior that earned a win over Brockport earlier this year. He's been around so he's able to handle playoff pressure. Matt Kelly could be the other choice. Coach Doorey doesn't have the luxury to rest his ace in the opening game.

hey john,
don't u have to throw your best guy in game 1? conventional thinking says yes, if you lose with someone other than your best its gotta have u saying what if. its definately a gamble not to. although, for cortland, oneonta or brockport if u can win with a #3 or #4 on day 1 it really sets your pitching up for the rest of the tourney. i'd have to throw dougher if i were cortland, can't save anyone for tommorow.
another option for cortland is tone if ur not throwing #1 on day 1, he has been lights out.

Not that anybody asked me but....

In theory, and if i were the coach, i would do exactly what John is saying, look at who has pitched against who, who has pitched well lately, who is coming up in the next game, and many other factors when deciding who to throw in game 1 of the tourney

In what will happen, i agree with Scuba, coaches will pitched their best available, and go from there.  and i think they will do this for the exact reason scuba listed, if you don't pitch your best you leave yourself open to being second guessed.
