Viper, what are the bigger problems?  I'd like to know what the former SID at Ithaca who now works in Florida is referring to?

Bob Maxwell

Viper... thanks for the laugh... very astute!

don't be afraid to pop in now and then...

Pudge, welcome to the posting even if you are a Cortland fan...  always enjoy anohter opinion on here.

Bob Maxwell

Scuba, if you do have the power to jinx, everyone in the SUNYAC appreciates it...
;D

Just kidding,  :D , looking forward to a great season... and I for one enjoy having a team that brings atttention to the conference on a national stage.  There are other teams that are working towards that goal... look forward to the day when the SUNYAC can enjoy having 2 or 3 teams talked about on the national stage.

NYBaseball

Pudge27, if thats all it takes to put the Kibosh on Cortland than I'm all for it.....I hope everyone on here jinx's them.

Viper, what are the bigger problems?

Sorry my humor is so subtle.  "Best chance to date to win the NC in 2008."  See, that is a funny statement because Cortland has never had a chance to win the 2008 National Championship.  The NCAA only awards the 2008 National Championship at the end of the 2008 season.  If you look, the same is true for 2007, 2006, 2005, etc.  In fact, without looking it up, I would venture a bet that no one has had the chance to win the National Championship in a specific year until that specific year actually began.  Although, things were pretty crazy during WWII.  Maybe the NCAA gave out the 1943 National Championship at the end of the 1942 season.  I am not sure.  I could go on but further explanation would require charts and an easel.

Just to be clear, I was never the SID.  I just worked in the office while I was a student.  Also, to the extent you are implying that I am still working in sports in Florida, I'd like to clear the record.  My last year in Major League Baseball was 2006 when I began practicing law.  Not sure if you thought all of this was a secret or not.

Do you and I know each other?  Are you a former Bomber or a former C-State baseball player?  Did you happen to play ball with my cousin?

EDIT: +k Bob Maxwell for getting the humor and generally driving the baseball discussion towards interesting topics.  Eh, what the hell, +k for all the C-Staters too.

Not to put my head in the lion's mouth over here on the SUNYAC board but I think there are bigger problems than just the curse Pudge.

Quote from: scuba16 on January 08, 2008, 12:36:28 PMAdding those kids to the returning players may give C-State its best chance to date at a National Championship in 2008!

I'm no historian but, isn't this season Cortland's only chance to win the 2008 National Championship?

Viper,  this comment just wreaks of Bomber.  All I've got to say is that I'm a big ND Irish fan, and if the shelf life on their 1988 Championship is up, so is yours.  I think that IC should be pretty good this year.  Plus, it would hilarious if they did make the World Series this year and showed up in Battle Creek, MI out of habit.

And the season has begun.

Hopefully, all this banter means that people will have a better sense of humor than last spring.  (I vaguely remember the baseball boards being fairly heated at some points).

I was thinking I might take the high road the rest of the spring and then you go and post this:

There is a good state skewl joke in there somewhere.

As for the championship going stale, you're probably right.  In fact, we had to kind of bunch all the NC trophies up in the trophy case to make room for the Cortaca Jugs.  It is really a problem on South Hill.  During the trophy case meeting I suggested we drive down to Cortland for some ideas.  I mean, you guys fit all those participation ribbons from the CWS so neatly that I thought we could get some tips for these:

In all seriousness though, I am really looking forward to 2008.  The end of 2007 was one of the lowest points for Bomber fans in the history of the rivalry.

Ok Viper, so I may have used the wrong phrasing for the term "reek".  I try to make up for that by hanging out with people that won't know the difference.  Nice picture.  I think that those 3 in the middle were from when Moses was your captain.  Nice to see you keeping them around.   I'm all for keeping it civil in here.  08 should give us plenty to talk about once the season gets started.

JQV

Nicely done.  If I hadn't already given you k today, I certainly would have for either of these line gems.

Viper is so cooooooooooooooooooooool!
Big gulps huh fellas, well see you later!

C-State is pre-season #1 according to d3baseball.com's front page!
Pretty nice recognition for a small Upstate NY SUNY school! Although the only ranking that ever matter are the final rankings, but none the less a nice accomplishment!

NCWC

Starvin Marvin, we will see how they open up against wesleyan.  If they are as good as you think they are we should see a no hitter, no runners on base, and a complete massacre.  Or the other way around.

NCWC....Smith, Pecora and whoever else can run on your club won't be doing so on that day unless they want to get hosed.  Tell Coach Long he's going to have to play station to station that day and his left-handed hitters are in trouble because Cortland has two of the best LHP's in the country

Pretty confident words chief..

I have a long drive to see their games this year, i was trying to cherry pick some to watch that are non conference.

NCWC, you're the one who asked how good they might be and who to watch for.  I was merely telling you about two aspects of their game, their catching and a couple of their pitchers.  You're the one who's assuming I meant a no-hitter and no runners on base.  I'm sure it will be a very competitive and close game as Wesleyan is a tough task for any team.  Very confident words my friend, enjoy the game!

NCWC

Now that I have had time to look at Cortland more precisely, I see they are very good team that has one hell of a schedule this year.
