   Cortland 9, Mary Washington 6

Bob,

Assuming the pitching changes are listed correctly, then Hooper would get the win for exactly the reason you stated - Cortland took the lead for good in the top of the fourth and he was the pitcher of record at that time, having entered in the bottom of the third.

Fran is always on top of the stats, you can count on that!

jdex, i'm assuming you got your info from mary washington cuz coromato doesn't pitch and kurt heaton, not andy king followed blanco.

SM: Box directly from MW site. Yeah, looks a bit strange, but at this stage of the season you see strange stuff. Fact or fiction?

FranElia

We will try to have box scores for all three of Cortland's games from last weekend online by Wednesday night. I was out sick Monday and have basketball games at home tonight. I will meet with Coach Brown on Wednesday to go over box scores and make sure info gets straightened out. Thanks to everyone for their patience - this is always a tricky time of the year for stats (spring trips, neutral fields, overlapping winter and spring seasons).

BASKETBALL?

Fran, its baseball season...just look out your window!  Oh, on second thought maybe it still is basketball season.

The second SUNYAC team starts their 2008 season tomorrow when New Paltz plays a double header vs Randolph Macon.  Then Brockport opens on 3/7 at Rutgers Camden.

Hope the weather holds for these two openers!

Just the fact that Rutgers Camden (which I assume is NJ) feels remotely confident scheduling a home game a week from now when 350 miles to the NW, I've got 12 inches of snow and couldn't start my car this morning is depressing.  Definitely reminds us in upstate NY what freakish weather we get here.

Upon perusing updated and accurate Cortland box scores a couple of things stand out, both expected for early season. Cortland pitchers experienced bigtime control problems, and the hitters for the most part struggled ......as in two hits in opener vs. Rowan. Came alive in third game rally at Mary Wash.

You may see Cortland State "struggle"(maybe drop a game or 2) early on. They have a ton of transfers and freshmen. It takes a while for guys to gel, especially when they haven't played many games together. The talent is definately there. I would expect the coaching staff to get them going in the right direction and with the talent present, they will be tough come the end of the year!

Good point Scuba.  I think it makes a good argument for the "pro" of traveling early to play some games before their spring trip.  It's pretty common to come out of the gate a bit slow and opening up with 10 games in a week is tough.  It might take all week to get going and next thing you know, you're 3-7 or 4-6 to start the season, even if you're a good team.  Getting some early games before the big trip can be really helpful to figure out how good you are and what you've got to work on.  From a conference perspective, it's good to see at least 2 other schools going out and getting started early as well.

Is Fredonia st. going to be good this yr???? Looking at the roster, they seem to have a bunch of returning kids that were pretty good last yr!
