Nice to catch up on the reading... our computer went haywire, turns out windows was crashing very slowly... but now its back like new.   Thank goodness for people who know what they're doing with computers.  LOL    :D

Meola is pretty fast, but he has been pinch run for a couple of times with Jason Micheals becuase he is faster and also plays 2B.  Just moves by the coach...

Kelly has pitched in relief early inthe year... thought perhpas he was hurt and was just given short stints to get back up to speed...  Anyone know how he is doing if he was hurt?

Very interesting conference season so far...  except for Cortland on top and SUNYIT again struggling... every thing esle is as clear as MUD.  With all six teams having possibilities to reach the tournament.  Will be fun to watch...

Bob,

Your comment on Meola and Michaels is not making much sense to me. If Michaels was a better second baseman then he would already be in the game. You don't pinch run a  guy, who plays the same position just to get him in the game, this isn't high school or summer league baseball. Obviously Meola is not very "fleet of foot"

Cortland.........Cortland...............Cortland............

What?  Too early?  Too football-y?

Whatever.

YOU SUCK.

(secret +k to the Cortland posters.  Good comments and discussion this year.  But you still suck.)

Wow...no response?  Anyone listening to the game online?  Johnny, you out there?  You remember your loyalties?

2-0 Dragons through 2.  2r dinger in the first over the 405 sign.  If it was to the part of the park they said it was, it was a shot.

I've honestly been awake for like an hour. I had to work late last night (inventory) and didn't get home until around 7:30. Even better, I get to go back in at 6pm.

There was a +K for your nice little chant. I find that one can also apply to that other school in Ithaca when my new employer plays them in hockey.

WICB's stream doesn't seem to be working for me at the moment, I might switch computers just to check the score before I head in.

It's a pretty big game in the national picture, at least I think, with each team bringing in a streak of 15 or more wins in a row. But, in terms of playoffs, it sadly doesn't really have playoff implications, probably other than seeding IMO.

Realistically, this could be for a one-seed in Auburn if both teams keep playing like they have been. Not to discount RPI and Rochester, but I think that Ithaca and Cortland are playing the best baseball in upstate NY right now.

The bigger game between these two will be a little over a month from now in Auburn. I'll post a score in a few minutes once I get my other computer online.

Here's something that will generate discussion - what's your favorite IC-Cortland baseball moment? For the sake of argument, let's not include the feistier games.

I have to think for a minute or two before I answer.

Someone else can take over if they want, I'm off to work.

Unfortunately, I was in the middle of a reply earlier today when I had to shut down and do some actual work.  I can appreciate you going out on that limb prior to the game, so I won't give you a hard time if the score stands.  Now, I don't think I can run my mouth too much knowing what the score is.  Although I will say that it's funny how the Bombers finally get the jug back after what must have seemed like 20 years, you get to running football smack already.  I gotta run.

  Cortland 9, IC 5

    Cortland 9-11-0
    Ithaca     5-13-0

WP- B. Rowlands. LP- A. Brown

Cortland strikes twice in the first as M. Avery hits safely and M. Zaccardo homers. Same thing in three-run CSt third for 5-0 margin. Dragons add three spot in fourth and final run in fifth. IC has single scores in fourth, sixth and seventh, two in the eighth

       Avery 3x5, 1bi, 3r; Zaccardo 2x3, 3r, 4bi; A. Gardner 2x5, 3bi.
IC's R. Raux 3x5, 2r; E. Ferguson, D. Ash, A. Kartholl, D. Perez 2h each; Ash 2bi

        Rowlands goes 3.1, 3h, 1r, 1er, 0w, 4k. Relievers C. Bilyk 2.1, 2h, 1r; N. Baker 1.1, 4h, 1r;  N. Serio 1.1, 4h, 2r; N. DeVito .2, 0h

Brow 3.2 inn, 8r, 8er followed by three others

Cortland win streak grows to 19, ends IC streak at 17

Good day for the Dragons with the stick.  I'll agree with John that the real game will come next month.  Good win nonetheless.  Seemed like Cortland was set on using a number of pitchers today.  I think they've got 4 conference games this weekend.  Hard to tell if Ithaca was planning on doing the same or not.

As for favorite Cortland/IC moments on the diamond, I'd start with any of the times when IC was sitting in the winners bracket and Cortland comes back to take it from them. That's always a pretty good time in my book.

Cortland 9-5 over da bombers. Some quick observations from looking at the box score.
Ithaca throws a regular starter like usual,  A. Brown(their #3) and Cortland Pitches by commitee (planned I would imagine).  B. Rowlands, C. Bilyk, N. Baker, N. Serio,  N. DeVito

Cortland score 9 quick and then cruises to the W.
I don't like the Cruising part, they need to hammer away and win this game by double digits!
Only the regular season, but any win at Freeman is a good win, it is a tough place to play and IC is coached well!

Favorite Cortland/IC baseball moment has to be sending the Bombers home for good in the 1995 regional. Cortland's baseball program has never looked back and the Bombers haven't reached the World Series since 1994.
It was a changing of the guard!

I'd like to say that my favorite moment is Ithaca defeating Cortland at Freeman Field during the regular season of my senior year (2002). But, aside from remembering that I broadcast the game on ICB with Zach Gershberg, I don't recall anything of the game.

Thanks to the power of the Internet, I can see that Sazi Guthrie tossed a complete game five-hitter and Tim Bush drove in three runs.

That's the only time that I've seen Ithaca defeat Cortland. My favorite moment might be the 2005 winners bracket game and championship game in Auburn. Both games were unbelievable, Cortland won 9-8 and then 9-7. Rob Raux nearly tied the title game in the top of the ninth but his would-be home run bounced off the top of the double-decker fence.

My favorite Ithaca baseball moment comes from the following season, the five-hour extra-inning marathon against RPI that Ithaca won in 11 or so innings.

I'll say this, I didn't see the game but if Zaccardo's dingers went where the radio guys say they went, neither was a cheap one.  That 405 mark in Right Center at Freeman Field has got to play at least as deep as any park in the country for a right handed hitter.  That is just beyond the wall of trees that cuts down the wind in left and left center.  Kudos to him on those shots.

As for a favorite IC-Cortland moment, that is a tough one given the quality of the games over the years.  I do remember the game John referenced.  Sazi was locked in that day.

I think that he's a lefty hitter if I'm not mistaken.  Could be switch.  Still a pretty big blast to get one out there.

I will agree with Scuba that the game in 95' was pretty important.  Sounds like you guys probably couldn't have cared less at the time as you were on your way out to the Jr. High dance, but IC was Dominant back then.  They were also doing 4 team regionals, and IC was going to the Series every year.  Bigtime Monkey off the back for the Dragons.

As for John's all time favorite moment:  I've never been accused of pulling for IC, but any time they knock around RPI, they're ok in my book for at least that day.

Viper,
talked to 1 of my buddies that went to the game and he said zaccardo's hr to rt center over the 405 sign was an absolute bomb. the 2nd hr was to lft center and not a cheap one either.

Pudge,
zaccardo is a lft handed hitter

Side note: I think IC has only beaten Cortland once or twice since 1995. Because of my laziness i refuse to go through all of the old box scores to come up with a precise # but I know it is a low #.

Having said that, the rivalry is still 2nd to none!
