Ya I was just about to ask if anyone knows what the deal is.. very scary..

On a baseball note, impressive that Oswego came back and beat Fisher.  SJFC kinda laid an egg the last week of the season.

Glad to hear coach Paino is doing well...

Cortland will represent us all in the CWS this week.  Would be nice to see a SUNYAC national champion... even if all of us would prefer that they weren't SUNYAC champs.  ;-)

Rob and I will be going out to watch... his graduation present.  Wish he was playing...

Great article on the D3baseball page about Brian Mehan and his time with at Plattsburgh.  It puts the priorities of life in order very clearly...  And shows the class individual that coach Doorey is.

I cried as I read the story... and want to say that while I didn't know the young man, I can't imagine what he, his teammates and family went through.  I thank the lord that I've had the opportunity to share these times with my own sons as I watch them participate in collegiate athletics.  My prayers go out to Brian's family.

Thanks for sharing your son on the ball field and his story with all of us!

Any starting projections for Cortland's team next year, I have a good idea I think but open to any possibilities.

Gardner C, Merriweather 3B, Nickel SS, Palmiero 2B, A. Dimino RF, Avery LF, K. Dimino CF

And of course the pitching will be there with Tone being the number one next year

any info or predictions on sunyac teams 2009   hows cortland state looking..

Not sure how anyone is looking at this point but I heard Cortland got a couple big-time D1 transfers.  I think any prediction has to start with Cortland and it's a toss up from there on out.

CONGRATULATIONS.................

My best goes out to Rob Maxwell (Brockport '08), for signing a contract with the Texarkana Gunslingers of the Continental Baseball League for the 2009 season!!

Great things can happen if given an opportunity!!

"All the best" as well, to the Maxwell Family!!!

Starvin.... did you just cut that out from one of the posts last year/  It seems like they get a couple of D-I transfers every year.  And now and then one of the top players on another SUNYAC team moves there too.

Guess they look to recruit that route...

I know Brockport got a few transfer kids in... and has a good solid young group returning.  They had 2 or 3 freshman in their starting line up every game last year.  And made a strong late season run... and just fell short.  With a better start they may have gotten a little farther, but there were too many L's in the early season.

If they can replace the bats of Rob and Jared Perham and the innings of Rob and Tim Mascari on the mound they will be in the mix again.

Any one have any information on any of the other SUNYAC teams?  Oswego looked good at the end of last year... Fredonia was in the mix for most of the year... Oneonta has a lot returning and a couple of top young pitchers... What will happen at Plattsburgh minus Welch and Huges bats... Will New Platz be the team that we though they were last year before they fadded and can they replace the presence of Potter in their rotation.

THE BIG question is what will the schedule look like with only 7 teams... and will that new rotation impact what happens by some teams not playing 4 SUNYAC games on a give weekend?

Can't wait to watch it unfold...

Boomer,

Thanks, I know Rob is excited at the opportunity...

Also, Zach Welch from Plattsburgh also signed with the same league but has not been placed on a team yet.  That will happen in the league draft in early 2009.

And Matt Dahliln also from Plattsburgh played last summer in the Frontier League.

One more item and I don't know if it is substantiated or not, maybe someone on here can confirm it... is that Texarkana is looking and talking with Mike Zaccardo about signing with them for 2009 season.  Now that would be interesting, to see Maxwell (08) pitch and Zaccardo (07) catch in a game... they are the last two SUNYAC players of the year.  I would like to see that happen...

Given Zaccardo's brief run in the Phillies system and his exit after one game, I highly doubt him playing at the next level anytime soon. From what I read in a Rochester paper this summer, it sounded like he retired anyways.

I am very excited to see that the brackets were changed for the world series. It was not fair at all for Cortland last year it was a near impossible and uphill battle after the first loss to Trinity. Those two teams should never of played the first game, just doesn't make any sense. Well since it is changed I am anticipating this years Cortland State team i know they lost alot, but I almost positive they have enough talent to fill the holes. Based on what i saw last year they are not weak in any area. There infield will be very exciting to watch. I want to see how Nickel and Palmiero work together this year, they finally will play consistency it should be good. Don't forget about Gardner and Tone who should also contribute to this years chance of winning any title. The outfield will be solid with Mike Avery and the Dimino brothers that should also be fun to watch. Well I'm looking forward to this year good luck Cortland!

StarvinMarvin

I agree with you banalyst about the WS format and that Trinity vs. Cortland should not have been a first round matchup.  The same can be said for the previous year when Cortland played Kean in the first round in what was basically a one-run ball game that could have gone either way much like Cortland vs. Trinity.   Actually Cortland should have beat Kean but a ridiculous and rare call/ruling was made in the ninth that screwed Cortland.  Cortland has played the eventual national champion in the first round the last two years.  Anyway, I have to disagree with you about Palmiero, doubt he'll be the starter at SS.  He's a decent player and would probably start at a lot of programs but he'll never be the main guy in that program.  You can bank on the fact that a SS was brought in who can hit.  Also, don't forget about Simone, dude can rake and should contribute quite a bit this year.

banalyst

Well Starvin Marvin I am going to have to disagree with you because if you follow college baseball. I said that Palmiero would play at second base this because of Vittalone's loss and Nickel would play SS. I also said it will be fun to see how those two play together it should be a fun year. If you already haven't heard Cortland was able to get the #1 preseason ranking from collegiate baseball, that is a great honor for a great program. Everyone have a great holidays!

Well banalyst first of all you didn't specify who would play where.  Second of all it's Vitalone with one t.  Nickel will stay at third, he's capable of playing short but not well enough to do it at the level needed to help a team win a national title.  There's a transfer that's gonna play short and a freshman who's gonna play second.  Palmiero will get his reps but his stick doesn't allow him to play anywhere in the infield consistently, bank it!  You're certainly entitled to your opinion.

It's great news Cortland is ranked preseason #1!!  It really is.  Problem...you guys don't seem to be aware that the Dimino brothers were both suspended after being kicked out of school.  Fight broke out and they were the ones who happened to be the ones at fault.  Fight involved the soccer team actually.  Hurt their chances?  Probably...
