I know this is late but on the Cortland - first game outside topic.  I think the average snowfall in the DC area is less than 20 inches.  If you don't know what 140 inches of snow over the winter is like then you really aren't understanding what first day outside means.  I think the Cortland games could have gone either way but those DC schools had to brave some cold weather that they probably practiced in during the 3 days before.  Cortland went from shorts in the gym to baseball pants in 35 degrees.

Salisbury had played 7 games, catholic had played Stevenson 5 days earlier and Mary Washington had played a double header 7 days earlier.  No doubt those were not those schools first day on a field.  On any warm day they could have hit a turf football field or maybe been on their own fields.  I'm assuming yes, probably a lot of cold days that put the DC area indoors but it's a big deal.

Having lived (and coached baseball) in New England for 20 years, I know about spring ball in the Northeast.  Having lived in the DC area this past winter, I also know that DC area teams have not been out on their baseball diamonds in February.  It's been cold and it's been wet.  I'm a Hopkins fan, and I know that the Blue Jays have not been on their field yet.  In all likelihood, Hopkins will not play a game before their spring trip to Arizona, where they start out with Wheaton (MA), and regardless of the outcome of that game, Hopkins players and fans will not be whining about having to prepare for the season inside.

Salisbury is just across the Chesapeake from us, but they've played on cold and soggy fields both in Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina to get their ten games in.  I can assure you that Catholic and Mary Washington have not been practicing outside for the last four weeks (as Alley Cat posits in his excuse for Cortland's poor start to the season).

Now I don't have any doubt that Cortland will kick it up a notch as the season progresses, but it's an ill-founded, limp excuse to say that the reason they lost their first three games is because they weren't able to practice outside and their opponents were able to do so.

Brockport's 2009 roster is posted. Several interesting transfers are listed for the Golden Eagles roster including former Division I athletes Jordon Allen (Central Connecticut), Todd Allen (no relation, Vermont) and Jim Gaudet (Albany). Not one of three saw substantial playing time in Division I though Todd Allen put up impressive numbers at Herkimer CC before going to UVM to ride the pine.

Plus, the Golden Eagles have Jamie Rose back listed on the roster after he missed all of last season. The LeMoyne transfer is now a senior.

JUCO additions include Max Keado (Hudson Valley), Kyle Harris (Broome), Nate Parrino (Genesee), James Joy (Hudson Valley), Chad VanHusen (corning) and casey Job (Hudson Valley). Keado was an all-region selection and I suspect that Nate Parrino is the younger brother of current minor leaguer and former LeMoyne standout Andy Parrino.

I understand that Ryan Myers and the starting catcher Flarerty were suspended for the florida trip, they will be back for league play or so I heard anyway.

Jack31 & Manbearpig21:  Any input is welcome on this board... especially if it is insite to SUNYAC teams.  Everyone on here seems to have information on Cortland... it is great to see fans from ohter teams joining in.  If your SUNYAC fans you know I'm a Brockport supporter, but with Rob not there anymore don't have as much insite on what is happening day to day.  But still follow them... and hope to get to several games this year.

They lost a tough one to Kean last weekend... had a 3 run lead and a big bottom of the 8th by Kean did them in.  But they look like they will once again be right in the mix in the SUNYAC!

Does anyone know if Myers and Flaherty went on the trip and just won't play... or were they kept home on the trip?

And Cortland wins one for the SUNYAC over a top team from the Liberty League!  Good Job... now everyone else needs to do the same when their turn comes.  Show we are the top conference in NY Region!!!

Cortland 6-5 over Webster, MO, in Florida to raise record to 4-3. Webster 2-3
