Classy John, throwing a dig at a kid who played professional baseball.  Then again, I'm sure you played baseball at a high level so you have the right to knock him.

Easy...I'm just having a little fun. You should know my sense of humor by now. Besides, as a former Cortland broadcaster, I respect all the players that have gone through Joe Brown's program.

Also, as someone who covered Will during his three years in college, including the conference Player of the Year season, I thought he was one of the most athletic players to wear the uniform. His junior season was amazing because of his prowess at the plate and his improved defensive confidence.

I wish he could've stuck on in the minors or even in indy ball because he does have one attribute that can't be taught, and that's speed. Plus he's a good kid.

Didn't mean to offend anyone, just trying an attempt at some light-hearted humor.

Big Louie

well John you got a laugh out of me with the Will Groff comment :D

HotSoupTrio

lol...will was quite the butcher with the glove... ;). The kid could really run and hit though....Great football player too

My point is if u can rake and cant play d, u play rf, lf, dh or MAYBE 1b. u dont play 3b or ss. u can sacrafice some offense for defense up the middle(c, ss, 2b, cf) but never the other way around! Pitching and defense win championships and were pitching pretty well.
For christ sakes, we made 9 errors vs farmingdale, THAT ISNT A TYPO, 9 ERRORS IN 1 GAME! We'll turn it around, I know it, but college players playing in such a great program should leave their spatula's home and bring the leather with a little pride.
Jesus, at 35 I could put my dick and balls in front of the rock at 3rd, knock it down and throw it to 1st!

Point taken, no doubt the kid can play

Bob, any insight into tomorrow's (or today's) game Brockport vs Pitt- Bradford? Looking at stats Bradford looks solid, any chance that Brockport can catch some momentum with a win or is all pretty much lost?

Also on Cortland vs Rochester?

Any other info of some other games being played soon would be appreciated

As strong as Cortland has been over the past few years, their one achillies heel has always been the defense.  And I think John's comment on Will Groff was great and in fun, not necessairly at Will, but all the Cortland players of the past... and can be made becuase he did move on to play at a higher level.  He was putting a little levity on the situation... as it isn't time to panic for anyone.  Thaks for the chuckle John!  All of us non-Cortland Sunyaac fans appreciate the tongue in cheek humor.

Scuba is right... you can get to the regional by outsluggin many teams, but if you can't play defense you won't go to far.  They lost the game in last years world series on a defensive play.  They could have been up and done before it got to that point, but Trinity's defense kept Cortland from scoring the runs earlier in the game.

Trinity loses taht game and I don't think they win the national championship.  Cortland was there to win it and Trinity beat them with Defense.

By the way, it was a GREAT game to watch!!!

I wish I was going to be at the game... gut will be trying to listen to Cortland and Rochester... until our softball game starts here at Buffalo, then out to supoer them.

Bob Maxwell

Guess I won't be listening to the Cortland - Rochester game at the start... the time change starts it after our softball game.  have to catch the end of it at home.

I have to say I think it is awesome that Cortland puts games on the internet... with the avaiability of the technology today, I would love to see more schools do it.  Go to the communications department and start a broadcast club... the students would do it for free and earn credits while building up a protfolio.

Just a thought...

Scuba, don't you think it a little drastic to actually put your genitalia in the line of fire just to prove a point?  Hopefully, they will turn it around with just some extra grounders before practice and you can spare your junk.

If it does get to the point where you're going to go "Roger Dorn" "Commando-Style", please be sure to post it first so that I can take the day off and make the trip.

Thoughts on today's contest between Cortland and Rochester.

*Great weather. You couldn't ask for nicer weather on a late March afternoon in upstate New York. Sure, it could've been warmer, but then it wouldn't be New York. On the bright side, it wasn't snowing or raining and it was sunny.

*Cortland doesn't seem to have that one big bat in the line-up you can count on to produce. And that's not a knock on any of the current kids, but teams of the past have always had that big upperclass slugger that could come through with the big hit. This year's team at this junction doesn't seem to have that. Avery and Simone at the top are good table-setters but they don't have anyone behind them.

*If Cortland can't score (12 runners LOB today), the team will need to be propelled by its' pitching. Mike Mahay didn't pitch poorly today but he didn't have great stuff and Rochester did a great job of putting the ball in play and making solid contact. Cortland still has a great starting rotation and it will need to carry the team until the offense can get itself straightened out so this year doesn't end up like 2004.

*Rochester is a very good club. Do I think they're a top 10 team like the ABCA does? Sorry, but no. I think if they keep up their solid play and string together some more victories, they'll eventually be a top 25 team. That's nothing against Rochester, but I just want to see consistent play out of the club. They do that, then they'll be ranked IMO.

*I wouldn't mind seeing the two teams play again on Long Island with Matt Tone matching up against Blair Veenema.

In other action today....
Brockport dropped a 9-4 decision to Pitt-Bradford on the road. The stark number right now for Justin Beach's club is an 8.72 ERA.

It was out of my reach, what do you want me to do dive for it?"

I did catch your interview during the UR vs Cortland game today.  Having followed this web site for a few years I have come to realize that there is much knowledge available on this site regarding New York and East coast baseball.  Your comments and perspective are appreciated.

Knowing that Cortland has always been considered a top contender year in and year out, your point about having that big hitter may be true.  Still, they are to be respected and have talent that can and will develop like they are known to do.  Sure they left 12 runners on base, but you have to give some credit to the pitching.  There were also some good defensive plays made by UR, so don't be to hard on Cortland.

As far as Rochester is concerned, they are a better hitting team than what they showed today.  Having seen them in Florida, regardless of who was pitching, these guys can hit.  Being ranked in the top 10 may be a little unrealistic to some, but we can pick apart every team in the standings and come up with a different list.  I like BigPoppas list and how he approaches the way teams are listed, according to his thinking.  I kind of agree with that, and respect what the ABCA nad D3 have to say as well.  Everything is subject to opinion and results anyway.

Yeah, I'm excited about the Rochester victory today, and so are the players and other parents.  It is a big deal when you can win against a Cortland team.  Sure, Cortland may be a little-off so far this year, and Rochester has definitely improved over last year.  I would love to see both continue to win and eventually move on to the tournament.  Having listened to you today has given me another voice, analyst, that I can go to for information, perspective, regarding New York, East coast, and DIII baseball.  Thanks.

I have to be honest, I don't really remember much of what I talked about when I was on the air - a nice hot chili cheese dog from A&W, among other things, washed away some of my memory from the game. Though I'm glad you enjoyed my segment at least (more thoughts on the D3baseball.com Daily Dose). I would've loved to talk more about Rochester (I actually called the 2005 game at Wallace Field between the two teams) but I wasn't asked.

Kind of addressing this and that. Rochester's pitching today was very good. I liked Veenema through four and would have liked to see him continue into the fifth though I understand he was limited since they didn't want to lose him for the weekend. He definitely kept the opposing hitters off balance through the first four. Toland was solid as well and really kept his composure out on the mound when things started going downhill in the sixth and eighth.

I still think cortland doesn't have that big bat in the line-up and that's more from just watching the approach at the plate and some of the pitches that were taken and others that were swung at and through. That and from nearly 10yrs of seeing cortland teams. UofR clearly doesn't have that problem and everyone can put the bat on the ball. When your eight-hole hitter is connecting for home runs and your best player (Jay Jay) has a quiet day offensively, you're in business.

Today in north Jersey...

Oneonta (14-3) 7 William Paterson 6 (10)

Steve Juedes gave up five of WPUNJ's six runs though the Pios made six errors.

Meanwhile, Brockport's struggles continue to 2-11 for the season.

St. John Fisher 6 Brockport 5

Also...not good for the conference.
