Credit to whoever put Cortland on upset watch against Fredonia a couple of pages back.   They caught some jokes but they were dead right.

Got a call from the field.  Its not up anywhere.

Plattsburgh wins the second game 9-7.  Filak had a 6-0 lead at some point.

Cortland and Brockport split at Brockport.

The Dragons won the opener, 15-0, but lost the night cap, 3-2.

Brockport wins 6 of their last 7, including quality wins over Rochester and Cortland.  Nice job by a young team acquiring some good experience.
A walk is never as good as a hit!

I was at the chipper for the second PSU - O-state game.  cstate19 had the correct info.  Plattsburgh won the first game 1-0 on a walk off.  I didn't see it but i heard the ball should have been caught.  Matt O'leary threw a complete game 2 hitter.

I did see the second game and Filak did have a 6 run lead in the 7th inning.  Then he hit the lead of batter and walked the next 3 or 4 batters.  Campbell singled in 2 more runs and that was it for Filak.  Plattsburgh scored 5 in the 7th and Oneanta scored 1 in the top of the 8th to take a 2 run lead. Plattsburgh answered back with 4 more in the bottom of the 8th to take a 2 run lead and the eventual win.

I will say Filak looked good and was rolling until the 7th.

Any info on the Brockport- Cortland games?  Who else played this weekend?

I also was at the Oneonta- Pburgh game. the 1st game was very well pitched...wasnt impressed with either teams hitting. The winning run was scored on a high fly ball that the fell in btw the left and center fielder. It was a routine fly that some say was lost in the sun or just wasnt called by an outfielder.
The 2nd game Oneonta was dominating up 6-0 going into the btm of the 7th where filak who was cruising lost his control and walked everyone.  In the 7th and 8th innings, Pburgh scored 9 runs off of 2-3 questionable hits, 9 walks  a couple hit batters and an error or two. Oneonta tacked one on to make it 7-5 but their bullpen imploded in the 8th. From viewing the games Id say Oneonta lost these game more than Plattsburgh won them...especially the 2nd game anyways. SUNYACs are wide open....anyone of the teams in the SUNYAC conference could be in or out of the conference tournament by just one bad weekend...its too close to call

Bob Maxwell

Its going to be very interesting... looks like 5 teams all on farily even ground.

And as John said, it happens every year where at least one team gets games piled up and has to play a lot the weekend before SUNYAC's.  I think that happens when someone doesn't want to reschedule as soon as they can and they lose another set or two...  I think they are supposed to reschedule for the next Monday, then Friday, etc...  AND if they can't get it in then they have to reschedule non-league games like Cortland did with.  While it may happen to someone this year, I don't think it will be as bad this year as with one fewer confernce team there are more free (or non-league geme) days on the schedule.

I wonder if Oswego will jump up and beat someone and possibly cost them as spot in the tournemant.

It looks very interesting...

Big Louie

It definately looks to be interesting. Anyone have any thoughts on who gets in?

I like:
Cortland to finish at 9-3 (sweep of Oneonta, sweep of New Paltz, Split with Plattsburgh)
Brockport to finish at 8-4 (sweep of Fredonia, split of Plattsburgh)
Plattsburgh to finish at 7-5 (split with Brockport, split with Fredonia, split with Cortland, split with Oswego)
Oneonta to finish at 7-5 (swept by Cortland, sweep of Oswego, sweep of New Paltz)
Fredonia to finish at 5-7 (split with Oswego, split with Plattsburgh, swept by Brockport)

Ruby Red Dawg

double play dave,
could not disagree with you more. I think that Oneonta is the best team in the SUNYAC's, i know they slipped up yesterday a bit but i think  a sweep of Cortland is gonna prove my point.

Pitching is the key to winning the conference tournament, of the teams, i only really see 2 teams having enough pitching to make it to day 3. Oneonta and Cortland. Plattsburgh has one pitcher, in O'leary as Kelley has disappointed. Brockport has 1 solid dependable arm in Shannon, who from the looks of it pitcher extremely well against Cortland. Fredonia has Carlson who is having a great years so far.  how do these teams expect to make it championship Sunday of the tournament with one arm a piece?

Now a question posed to the board: Now assuming that the boxscores from yesterdays Brockport and Cortland games were correct, what was Joe Brown doing using his best reliever in a 13 run bal game? Is he that arrogant and have that much hatred for Brockport that he wanted to rub it in there face that bad? This move might have potentially cost him the second game, having to bring 2 starters out of the pen in a close game. My guess, Brown still can;t get the bitter taste out of his mouth after being embarrassed on his homefield in the 2004 SUNYAC tournament.

ANy of the Cortland guys out there have any insight? (Scuba, Starvin, bball)

I hardly doubt that coach Brown cares about what happened in 2004. No offense, but that's a pretty silly statement and seems like sour grapes on your part. Brockport hits the ball very well and can quickly pile up runs in bunches. The Dragons bullpen was absolutely terrible against Fredonia. Why not put in the sure thing in DeRosa to slam the door shut? Obviously DeRosa would've been more valuable in the second game but how is anyone to know it goes to extra's scoreless?

This makes for a pretty big doubleheader next Saturday at Wallace Field and it puts a bit of emphasis on the Dragon's trip up to Plattsburgh at the end of the month.

Big Louie

John we know you have a man crush on Joe Brown. Brockport was not scoring 13 runs in the last two innings in a game they were dominated in. I think i need to take ruby's side on this one. Things aren't coming as easy for Brown and the Red Dragons this year and I can't say i can complain.
