From viewing the games Id say Oneonta lost these game more than Plattsburgh won them...

Look I understand the logic between saying one team lost a game rather than the other winning it but I feel like it is so overused its not even funny.  I am in no way shape or form a big Plattsburgh fan but you have to give them credit.  They pull out a close game in game #1 in the bottom of the 9th and then in the second game they rally for the win.  Give them credit, most teams fold mentally down 6-0 with a great pitcher on the mound. Yea he walked alot but I have seen many teams give those ABs away.

double play dave,
could not disagree with you more. I think that Oneonta is the best team in the SUNYAC's, i know they slipped up yesterday a bit but i think  a sweep of Cortland is gonna prove my point.

Pitching is the key to winning the conference tournament, of the teams, i only really see 2 teams having enough pitching to make it to day 3. Oneonta and Cortland. Plattsburgh has one pitcher, in O'leary as Kelley has disappointed. Brockport has 1 solid dependable arm in Shannon, who from the looks of it pitcher extremely well against Cortland. Fredonia has Carlson who is having a great years so far.  how do these teams expect to make it championship Sunday of the tournament with one arm a piece?

Oneonta may very well sweep Cortland with two solid pitchers and may very well even win the tourney.  But after yesterday there is no way you can say that they are the best team in the conference. They might have the potential but you cannot make the arguement that they are the best team this afternoon.

Well said cstate...  Right now it is a 5 team race for any of the four positions.  I don't think any team can be given the tag of best in the conference as they've all shown a weakness.  And if that can be exposed by an opponent they won't win it.

With all this being said... Cortland still needs to be respected as they've earned that from their dominance of the conference and the tournament for the past few years.  I don't think this is the same Cortland juggernaut that has done the dominating in past years... but don't talk about any team being the best until they do infact sweep them.  Matt Tone, even with out his good fastball from last two years is still a formidable #1.  And they you have to beat Ratliff and the bull pen.

Plattsburgh won the two games yesterday... no matter what Oneonta did.  They could have folded it up against Filak, but they turned it around and got the sweep.  They may be the surprise team... I said that one of the three things I wanted to see was them playing as they had only played two games, and seemed to have been brushed aside becasue they split with New Paltz.  They showed they can stay focuesed and win... at any time.

Brockport did the same thing... they lost the first game big, and were never in it as Cortland scored 8 runs with 2 outs in the first and kept tacking runs on.  Brockport went 7 scoreless innings with them in the second, then Cortland got 2 runs.  Brockport could have once again folded up the tent and given up... they didn't can came back and scored 3 in the bottom of the 8th, got three outs in the ninth and earned the split.

Both teams deserve some credit...  they stayed focused and ended up winning.

This year looks like any one of five teams can win it... which would be great for the conference as we may get two teams again this year... but until someone does knock off Cortland they are still the top dog.

Brockport won the first vs Clarkson 7-6 to carry the SUNYAC flag in a region game.  Any other word on today's games?  Especially Oswego at Fredonia...

I couldn't agree more.  Until they are mathmatically out of it, they are my favorite to win it.

Ruby Red...

Why do you say that DeRosa is the best reliever they have?  because of the ERA?  That is one of the things you look at... but its just one of them.  He opponents are hitting almost .300 off him.  And his last four outings... all very short were not very successful.  He's let guys on base... and I don't believe he's struck anyone out.  I may be wron gon that... as he did go 2.0 innings one outting.  My guess is this that coach Brown saw him in a bit of a down turn and gave him some work where he didn't have any stress.

The puzzling one to me was brinigng Rowlands in when he did, and not Blanco right off the bat.  But second guessing is easy...  that's why we all do it and not coach.   ;D

Plattsburgh wins 2 against SUNY Purchase... 3-2 & 10-2.

Keystone 14 Cortland 4

Brockport drops game #2, 4-2.  In the bottom of the sixth, with Brockport up 2-1, Clarkson had 2 men on and hit a ball deep to the leftcenter field wall... Rose jumps to catch it, the ball hits in his glove... but when he hit the wall, the ball bounced out and over the fence for a 3 run HR.

Well, that puts Oneonta on the outside looking in at the moment.  The two games at Cortland will be BIG ones for them.  Then they have Oswego and New Paltz to finish up with.  They will need to stay focused in those games, especially if they don't at least split with Cortland...

As things stand right  now:
Other big games:
4/18
Plattsburgh at Brockport
Oneonta at Cortland

4/19
Plattsburgh at fredonia

4/25
Fredonia at Brockport
Cortland at Plattsburgh

Games that could jump up and bite someone are
4/19
Oneonta at Oswego
New Paltz at Cortland

4/25
New Paltz at Oneonta

Fasten your seat belts... its going to be fun to watch as there are a LOT of games that still have impact this late in the year.

Well like a lot of you guys said about Oneonta before the season started, it's about their hitting, In plattsburgh Juedes gives them 8 scoreless and they can't score themselves, then in a stunner Filak can't hold a 6 run lead, that could be the game that will come back to haunt them. Now what does Ferchen do, does he throw Juedes and Filak at Cortland, will Oneonta score off Tone and Ratliff? they could get swept and burn their best two pitchers, then throw their 3 and 4 at Oswego, what if they split then they are done. I think he might throw 3 and 4 at Cortland, then throw Juedes and Filak at Oswego where he should get a sweep and throw them again at New Paultz and prey for a sweep and 7-5. Will be interesting to see who he throws.

You throw your best two guys at Cortland and try to steal one or maybe even two games.  In the conference tournament your gonna have to win a game or two with your #3 or #4 guy so if you dont have  confidence in those guys beating the worst team in the league in the regula season, then whats the point in making the tournament?

So Plattsburgh wrapped up an impressive weekend going on a 4 game win streak, next up is Div. 1 UVM on wednesday, hopefully they'll use it to stay sharp and keep the wave going into the very important weekend's SUNYAC games vs. brockport and fredonia

just hoping cortland and coach brown get things figured out soon.. seems this young talented team is having a hard time playing up to expectations after following some very sucessful and dominant cortland teams of the past few years.  coach brown, if you read this, these young players need your knowledge of the game , support and a good old pat on the back once in while to bring them to the next level, not beating them up and comparing them to the past teams you were lucky enough to have    OK.... just my 2 Cents

Havent seen a cstate game this yr, so its difficult to comment but I will say that the sunyac seems to be pretty even.
I will stand by the comment i made earlier in the yr that cstate will be tough to beat in a double elim format due to pitching depth. Tone beats anyone in the sunyac 19 out of 20 times and the rest of the starting guys are pretty good as a whole, way better than anybody else's starting staff in the sunyacs. Tone, Blanco and Ratliff all avg a strikeout per inning pitched!
Looking at the stats suggests the Big question are: the infield defense(nickel, bailey and pezzuto all fielding mid .800's), the relief guys, the team overall being young and the spotty hitting. Gardner hit over .400 last yr and is hittng .274.  Potrikus was suppose to b tough out of the pen and his era is 7.27 with only 8.2 ip! Losing the Dhmino bros hurts a little as far a being veterans of the sunyac grind!
As a coach, i will never question another coaches decisions, none of us are there day in or day out but bringing in derosa seems funny considering the inning and the score!
Hope the guys get it together, they will. Cortland hasnt played up to there potential yet, but lets remember, its not a sprint, its a marathon. Id rather be good late than great early!
Beating us in the regular season is a far cry from winning the sunyac tournament, especially when Tone toe's the rubber!
In sports it's not how you start, its how you finish!

Hello everyone, I am new to the board but have followed the sunyac for several years now. Cortland, as far as I have been watching, has been the most dominant. This year is a little different. There is no doubt that when Tone is pitching Cortland is pretty much guaranteed a victory. However this is how I see the rest of the season going:

Brockport sweeps Plattsburgh
Cortland splits with Oneonta
Plattsburgh sweeps Fredonia
Oneonta sweeps Oswego
Cortland sweeps New Paltz
Cortland splits with Plattsburgh
Brockport sweeps Fredonia
Oneonta sweeps New Paltz
Plattsburgh sweeps Oswego

How it all works out is Brockport is 9-3, Cortland Oneonta Plattsburgh are 8-4.
Brockport will host, Oneonta is the 2 seed, Cortland is the 3, Plattsburgh is the 4. Fredonia has had a good year thus far but will come back down to earth in the next few weeks. Fredonia will start getting treated like Fredonia and finish 5-7. Carlson will get beat and beat bad by either Brockport or Plattsburghs offense. New Paltz will finish with a typical 3-9 season and Oswego will finish 1-11. Once the tourney rolls around its anyones game. You still have to like Cortland with the pitching that they have. Oneonta has Filak and Juedes but they will not be enough to make it through. Plattsburgh will have another 2 and out in the tourney because of the lack of a shut down pitcher. As far as Brockport goes, they have good hitting at times but will need to step it up against better pitching which they have struggled with this season. They will also need more than Shannon and Gentzke to get through the tourney. Both have been solid but they will need someone else from that staff to be able to pitch against Cortland or Oneonta.
