Cortland gets the sweep, 8-7 and 7-5.

In game one, Cortland pots five runs in the first inning off of Jeff Carter and never trails after the opening stanza. Oneonta gets to within 7-5 and 8-7 but can't score the tying run. O-State left 13 runners on base.

While it was exciting, it wasn't pretty. The Red Dragons (both of them) combined for 10 errors, including six by the home team - Nickel and Reynolds had two each. The home team also just had five hits off a trio of Oneonta pitchers.

Andy Gardner and Mike Avery each walked twice and scored twice and Kevin "Action" Jackson went 1-for-2 with two RBI

Game two, Cortland breaks open a 2-1 game with five-straight runs between the fourth and fifth innings to go up, 7-1, on Dave Filak. Oneonta plated four in the sixth to get to 7-5 before Mike Assmann came on to shut them out the rest of the way.

The defense was much better with only two errors. Andy Gardner went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Nick Palmiero had two hits to lead the Cortland offense. Also, one interesting stat. Oneonta pitchers hit five batters in the nine-inning game.

Wow looks like a tight race in the sunyac. NP (3-5)splits w/ Oswego(1-7)
Oneonta (3-5) has to sweep oswego tommorow to get back in the race.  If Plattsburgh sweeps, it sets up a good series for nxt weekend w cortland going to P-burgh! If Cortland takes care of business tommorow vs NP, and P-burgh sweeps Fredonia, the best P-Burgh could do is tie them for the sunyac crown! Closest contested sunyac race in a long time!

Good call on the Brockport sweep.

sergispie

Hahaha. Yea I guess I didnt call that one too well for Brockport. The truth of the matter is is that Brockport doesnt have a bullpen. They needed Gentzke to go all 9 innings to win that game. His line didnt look too good today either though. 6 runs in the 9th doesnt help either. Plattsburgh looks like they have some timely hitting when they need it. Cortland takes 2 from Oneonta today which I can say I'm not surprised. I know I have been saying they arent the same team but Cortland looked like Cortland today. It will be interesting to see how things shape up tomorrow. After tomorrow I'm sure there will be plenty of scenarios for a bunch of teams for possible playoff berths. Who knows, the tourney could be in Plattsburgh this year. Oneonta might not even get in. You have to love this time of year

Scuba,

Small correction - if Plattsburgh sweeps Fredonia and Cortland sweeps New Paltz, then Cortland is 8-2 and Plattsburgh is 6-2 going into their doubleheader next Saturday (with Plattsburgh playing Oswego on Sunday). In that scenario, Plattsburgh can still win the league title outright by sweeping Cortland and at least splitting with Oswego (Cortland would be 8-4, Plattsburgh would be either 10-2 or 9-3.)

If Plattsburgh and Cortland split in this scenario, they you're right - Plattsburgh could finish no better than 9-3 and Cortland would be 9-3.

Thanks Fran, ur always and always have been on the very top of all the scenario's.
Personally, I think we should just win out and then there would be no tie breaker!

I'm planning on coming up to watch a game soon, I'll stop by the press box and say hi.

The second game win for Plattsburgh can be credited to Billy Davis... he got hit pretty hard in his short stint in game #1, and came into game #2 and did a good job.

He came into the game in the sixth with bases loaded... and made a spectacular play on a line drive back up the middle.  Not only did he catch the line drive, but he made the best part of the play by keeping his wits and after looking at first, turned and threw the runner out at third for the double play.  That ball goes through the middle it scores two more runs and who knows how many runs Brockport scores that inning.  They ended up getting just one run... to go up 8-6.  Davis went the distance and kept Plattsburgh close... which allowed the timely 9th inning hitting to happen.  Go into that inning down by 5 or 6 and it is a different mind set.

Cudos to Billy Davis for making the play... it may have a BIG impact on the site and field of the tournament.

The last four years, the final field wasn't set until the last day of the season... same thing this year.  But depending on what happens today, the site may still be up in the air next weekend too.

Very exciting...

FINAL - Game 1
Cortland 4 New Paltz 3

The Red Dragons dodged a bullet in the ninth. New Paltz loaded the bases against Brendan Rowlands but couldn't bring home the tying run. The Hawks nearly tied the game early in the inning but a ball that could've been a run-scoring double turned into a ground rule double that held a runner to third.

There's Cortland audio at CortlandRedDragons.com.

Plattsburgh drops the second game after being up 4-0.

Cortland 8-2
Fredonia 7-3
Brockport 6-4
Plattsburgh 4-4
Oneonta 3-5 (Waiting on Today's Results vs Oswego)
New Paltz 3-7
Oswego 1-7 (Waiting on Today's Results vs Oneonta)

Plattsburgh falls from first to in serious jeopardy of not making the dance.  Cortland takes two today to run their conference win streak to 4 and take the drivers seat.

I am going to say that Oswego and NP are out.  Leaves the other 5 for 4 spots.

Next weekend has

Cortland at Plattsburgh for 2 on Saturday
Fredonia at Brockport for 2 on Saturday
New Paltz at Oneonta for 2 on Saturday

Oswego at Plattsburgh for 2 on Sunday

Bob Maxwell

cstate,we can't say that until we see the Oneonta at Oswego scores... as New Paltz and Oneonta play next week and could end up tied.  Long shot yes, but without the scores you can't say for sure.

Once again, the last spot is to be decided on the last weekend.

Bob Maxwell

No wonder the scores from Oswego were late coming in.

Game #1, Oneonta 27 Oswego 3

Game #2, Oswego 15 Oneonta 13

Makes next weeks games with New Paltz at Oneonta and Home stand at Plattsburg vs Cortland & Oswego VERY BIG...
