Regional predictions anyone??????

When will the field be set?

I believe the field will be set next Sunday night after all of the conference tournaments end and the Pool B and C teams are selected by the committee.

Basically, if you're Cortland State, you know where you're going. That is, the Red Dragons will more than likely be playing in the Farmingdale, N.Y. regional as a number one or two seed. They'll be joined by Ithaca, the Liberty League champion, the Skyline champion and then potentially three out-of-region teams.

Offhand, I'd guess two teams from the Mid-Atlantic (one being from New Jersey IMO) and one team from New England.

Either Penn State Berks (Pool A NEAC, 21-20-1 record) or Penn State Behrend (if they win the AMCC tournament) could be placed in Long Island as well since I doubt the committee would want them both in Lakewood, N.J.  Berks could end up being the sacrificial lamb to the one seed in either Lakewood or Farmingdale in an eight-team bracket.

Congrats to Cortland.  As I watched the first game against Plattsburgh, I started to think that this year's team had heard plenty about how they werent close to the teams of years past and seemed pretty pissed about it.  They pitched, hit, fielded and walked off with three wins.

If I were on that team I could keep playing the no respect card in the regionals because to me, that seemed like the difference this weekend.

If there was a year to steal one from Cortland it was this year. But no one could get it done. Maybe if Oneonta was in they would have given Cortland a tough time, or if they had to face Carlson or Shannon things could have been different in the tourney. Hats off to Cortland. They just continue to get it done year after year. I am more impressed this year than any other year. They weren't guaranteed a title like always. They had to work for this one and they got it done. Congrats. Depending on what teams are in the regional Cortland might have a tough time returning to the World Series, but I have a feeling they will find a way to get it done.

Oneonta's Steve Juedes becomes the first pitcher from a school other than Cortland to win the Don Axtell Pitcher of the year award. Congrates to him, he deserved it, 30 2/3 scoreless ball in conference play, that is something. He gets named to the 1st team as well. Filak gets 2nd team along with Scott Dubbin SS and Chris Brady 3rd base. Ryan Myers gets snubbed.

If Trinity comes to that regional, with RPI, Ithaca, Wheaton and an NJAC team, Cortland is not walking out of that regional....im sorry, but i really don't believe they are close to the teams of the past.

Although NY region will have a lot of imports, it will be a tough regional...

Congratulations to those named to the All SUNYAC teams, overall thought it is a decent representation. Tough luck for New Paltz couldnt get a player named, Terlecky should have been in the discussion there for 2nd team. I do think that Ryan Myers should have been named and how does Levy make first team? Greco from Fredonia should be bumped to first team IMO.

Why would you reference my quote?  It had absolutely nothing to do with what you said.  Nowhere did I say the Cortland was walking out of the regional.  In fact almost everyone on this board has been saying all year that they were not as strong as teams in years past.  I have yet to see anyone say on here that Cortland would "walk out of the regional".

Drinking and posting at the same time is a dangerous activity.

I agree it is anybody's regional, but guess what? If Cortland pitches well and plays some D, they are a wicked tough draw. I know Cortland will have the deepest staff out of all the NY teams that will participate. The imports I have no idea about!
Pitching and Inf. defense is the key along with winning game #1.
IMO a 6 team regional would be better for Cortland because of the 1st rd bye and the depth of cortland's staff!
The 1 thing C-State has over everyone else besides Trinity is that guys on both those teams have been there and won before. There is something to be said for having been there and won.
Tone has got to win game 1 and Ratliff and Blanco have to be sharp when they get there starts!

Lets Go Cortland

Given Cortland's pitching tendencies in the past, you may not see Tone in game one. I think it depends on the opponent. Tone pitched against Plattsburgh in game one of SUNYAC's because he had just shut them down the week before - and, given Cortland's poor performance in the league, a win in the first game with a lesser starter wasn't as guaranteed as it would have been in years past.

On the other side of the coin, if Tone pitches and wins game one, he'll be available later in the tournament on short rest.

I think it depends on who Cortland draws game 1 on whether or not we see Tone.
Is this going to be a 6 team or an 8 team regional? Has that been decided already?
If cortland hits like they did in the sunyacs, watch out. Pitching wise, tone, blanco and ratliff have to throw good games when they get starts and we have to D up!! No more 4 error games from the left side of the inf!
The 1 thing I do like is that alot of people are underestimating this club! I've heard from more than 1 person, "Not the same cortland, not as good as past teams etc...." Maybe that will put the little chip back on our guys shoulders like yrs ago when we were out to prove something!

In any event, it should be a great regional and i expect anywhere between 2-4 out of region teams in the ny regional! Too bad its not in central ny, cause there aint no way i'm driving to LI unless boardy barn in the hamptons has opened up early!

Yeah, it's a haul down to Farmingdale - Mapquest has 5hrs for me. Thanks but no thanks. I'd much rather be heading to Auburn (Falcon Park) or to the Joe in Troy.

StagnantFLY

What players from the SUNYAC will receive All Region Honors?
When does the All region team come out?

To be honest....I believe Cortland should pitch their #2 or # 3 pitcher vs Clarkson. Save Tone for a win the next game. It looks like Cortland is gonna be 2-0 pretty easily.
Thoughts?
