Very legitimate point.  I don't know how it could be that way either.  Plattsburgh's biggest tests have been in-conference.  I don't know anything about the SOS formula, but it's hard to argue with numbers... they don't usually lie.  Knowing Plattsburgh's schedule definitely makes it hard for me to believe that they have faced a touch schedule, as the numbers suggest.

Please don't use the DIII baseball SOS. It's way off.  The NCAA committee has the real numbers. In some sports (see soccer, basketball) they actually publish the SOS for all region teams.    The NCAA Regional Rankings are the real deal.  They take into consideration everything involved in deciding SOS.  Same for  national rankings you see on this site. It's all based on reputation. Please, when trying to see NCAA committe rankings, they are the ones paying attention and taking the time to sort everything out.

If only this were true. The so-called "real numbers" nearly always contain errors. If it weren't for sites like this, the NCAA would continue to use flawed data. The routine NCAA errors have been well documented on these boards.

Just one example: I track the Midwest and Central in-region baseball records. The first published Regional Rankings contained errors for three of the six ranked Central teams, including the No. 1 team, Buena Vista. Because that error was caught, BVU now has two fewer in-region losses – like it should be, correct and fair. There are dozens more examples I could give you from this year, in just those two regions.

Mostly because the NCAA does not include results from Tuesdays in the rankings (like it says it does), this week's Regional Ranking data in the MW and C had 15 more errors ... again, that's only TWO region's worth of data. There are several other in-region record errors in the MW and C that were not simply "Tuesday ommissions." And if an in-region record for even one team is not correct in a given region, that means the rest of the data (OWP, OOWP, SOS) is compromised.

Just because the NCAA has the "official" stamp on its data, that doesn't mean it's correct. The 15 in-region record errors this week are far fewer than the first week. Please tell us all again why the NCAA doesn't need gatekeepers.

EDIT: Feel free to compare my numbers to those of the NCAA and tell me who's wrong. I admit I could be wrong, but I have enough confidence to show my numbers in order for someone to prove I'm wrong.

From today's newspaper up there ... Draw your own conclusions. My take: It's not accidental that he doesn't say going 0-2 will keep them out of the NCAAs. Instead, he just continues to lay the foundation for that Pool C -- and shouldn't this story say he's on the selection committee?

Good luck to all the teams today. Especially Brockport.

Plattsburgh State, which is currently ranked second in the New York Region behind Cortland, could still get into the national event without finishing first this weekend.

"We need to have a good showing — that would help us get an at-large berth," said Plattsburgh State head coach Kris Doorey. "But, going 0-2 isn't going to help us.

Predictions for Day 1:

Brockport 7, Plattsburgh 2   - Tracy gets his first loss
Oneonta, 4, Cortland 3     -   Filak holds it down

I think if Plattsburgh gets in you will start to see a trend in spring trip scheduling.  I would hope that the NCAA would reward teams that challenge themselves some instead of the trip Plattsburgh or even Oneonta took.  If they don't then personally I would load up on all of the penn-state teams, medaille's, Scranton's, Keuka's etc....

I love the fact that Ithaca goes out west and challenges themselves, however, this may not be the route to take anymore.  Same goes for Brockport.

Wow. Welcome to reality.

Brockport 7 Plattsburgh 1
Bottom 2

Dan Tracy 1.2 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 0 K

I hope the Tracy kid didn't get hurt on the comebacker that shot off his leg into right (per gametracker). And if he was hurt, it's inexcusable to leave him out there for three more batters.

This has the looks of a 17-12 game.

Truthfinder

Tracy's ERA goes from 3.52 to 4.43. But he's off the hook as Cardinals tied it at 7, now trailing 12-9 in eighth.

Ah OH!!  Hey Plattsburgh....play someone!  All coming back to bite you right now.  Say good bye to the NCAA's now.  They get in....the process is a total joke!!!!!  Can't wait to see Oneonta vs. Cortland.  Could be a great game!!!  What the weather look like tomorrow?

To the tune of Deck the Halls ...

Brockport 14, Plattsburgh 9,
Fa la la la, la la la la!
SUNYACs are never Cardinal time
Fa la la la, la la la la!
1 and 15 in tournament play,
Fa la la la, la la la la!
Pool C hopes just blew away,
Fa la la la, la la la la!

Go bribe the NCAA committee,
Fa la la la, la la la la!
Or your season will end swiftly,
Fa la la la, la la la la!
Go play more bad teams next spring,
Fa la la la, la la la la!
That'll never get you a title ring!
Fa la la la, la la la la!

WOW!!!  That is bad.  Thank God he didn't hurt any one.  Have to make sure the Cop wasn't a Cortland grad!!!  That would be too funny.

Wow, why not releasesed until today?

John McGraw

It looks like the paper tried to reach someone at the school for comment and was hoping someone would get back to them - preferably like a school spokesperson. Unfortunately no one did so they went with the story.

Interesting thing aside from the obvious is that the arraignment is scheduled for May 19 which in theory could be a day that the Red Dragons are supposed to be in Auburn for the NCAA tournament. They'll need to get through Brockport and most likely Cortland twice more to reach the postseason though.

Oneonta beats Cortland 7-1 behind a Dave Filak 3 hitter. Cortland's lone run came on a solo shot to dead center by Gardner. Filak had 10 k's
