Remember too that final exams come into play on this issue.  This is why Brockport had to go back home and could not play tomorrow as well.  Yup, even us state U. guys have final exams.

The two best teams are Oneonta and Cortland but great job by Brockport.
Platsburgh: Over rated.

Just realized something hilarious. Plattsburgh's season is over and there was still snow on the ground.

That's cold, in more ways than one.

I'll lay even money he plays two more stat-padding games this week, guaranteed to be against sub-.500 competition that he talks into coming north.

How can something like this happen? Kudos to Brockport for doing what they did but...I mean c'mom how can a winner be awarded with games left to play? If imOneonta I got a major problem with this...I wouldnt' have been suprised if Ferchen was out on Wallace Field with a bunch of space heaters, trying to convince someone that they could play.

I know that Cortland is hosting this regional, but is there any chance that if they grab that Pool C, they get shipped elsewhere? I would figure Brockport would stay in region because they won the AQ..

This happened in the Liberty League in...some point over the last 8-9yrs I want to say. That said, the Liberty plays its' tournament right before the NCAA bids are handed out. Anyways, a few games were played and most of the tournament was rained out. So, the tournament basically became single elimination and the winner of the winners' bracket game got the bid. Another year, the title round couldn't be completed because of weather and Clarkson got the shaft because the tournament reverted back to the team with the best record after the winners' bracket and this was RPI.

These things happen. I would imagine Cortland will very much want to see Brockport in Auburn. The team that loses out the most is Oneonta. They could have played their way in but because of a poor out of conference schedule, they're most likely not getting into the regionals. Plattsburgh, well, the Cards were SOL once they lost their second game of the weekend.

Congrats to Brockport for doing what they had to do, winning their first two games.  And I guess they should be thankful for Fredonia beating New Paltz and then coming back the next day and beating Oneonta.  And why do you all feel bad for Oneonta?  All they have is Filak.  Granted Bates is a good pitcher but he can't go all 9.  And Plattsburgh...what a joke?  Dan Tracy?  Please, he was awful.  How that kid is 9-0 just doesn't make sense.

Good luck to Cortland and Brockport in regionals!

Congrats Brockport. Weather in the Great state of NY can make it tough sometimes. Too bad they couldn't finish it on the field. It would have been something to see if Cortland or Oneonta could have come back and taken it after losing one.

I think Cortland should get a pool C with no problem. With that said it makes it more important for Rochester to win the LL to get in now that Cortland is taking a pool C.

I just dont seem to think  this situation is very fair...not for Cortland or for the SUNYACs, but for other teams around the country. You can all but assure yourselves that Cortland is getting  a Pool C bid, eliminating one. With selections not being made until next Sunday, that gives us one week to play 3 games. Efforts are being made thorughout the country to get games played and I think a better effort should have been made here.

Also on the final exam issue for Brockport, was Monday not already the raindate if games oculd not be played on the weekend? I understand we are dealing with STUDENt-athletes, but if a team is unable to make the commitment to the tournament (i.e. oblige with the policy and procedures and bylaws, in this case rain date on monday) then they should not be entered in. Basically what you are doing is forcing those who make the decisions, in this case I believe it was Cortland AD Joan Sitterly, to call off the tournament. I think it would have been interesting to been in on the meetings with all this if Cortland was sitting at 2-0, how importand would final exams be then?

AlleyCat

I totally agree with you about trying to get the games in. It should be decided on the field. This happened in the LL tourney 2 years ago.

Exams do come first and the NCAA would not have it any other way.  99.9% of these student athletes will not have an opportunity to play after college and their degrees mean everything to them. The players want to take care of it on the field, but the administrators needs to think about the whole package.

While Cortland has a right to be partially miffed, if they'd taken care of business against Oneonta on Friday, we might not be having this discussion. Cortland then would've had a chance against Brockport in the winners' bracket game on Saturday and probably wrapped up a 2-0 record there. But, it is what it is. If anything, the bylaws will be re-examined in the summer and I'm hopeful the rules will be changed or tweeked in the event something like this occurs again.

I guess the wise thing to do now would be to hope for great weather when the regional roles into Auburn in a few weeks.

Brockport beat Oneonta all 3 games this year. They are only good when Filak pitches. Oneonta players didn't even care about playing out of the loser's bracket after they lost to Brockport.

I'm sure Brockport is excited they were awarded the championship, but I think they would have rather proved it on the field. No team WANTS to win that way, its just the way the rules are. Maybe Cortland will get to play them in Regionals and then we'll see who "should have" been the SUNYAC champs

What happens if a team plays over 40 games (I'm guessing outside of a conference tournament?)  Noticed that Union played 42 games this year.  How would that have affected them in any way if they made the LL tournament? NCAA tournament?

They would not have been eligible for post season. Wonder if the former coach knew how to count?
