Well said Scuba...my nephew played in the Orioles organization and he experienced exactly what you speak of.

Hey Guys,
Its been awhile since I have posted. I was wondering about Indy Ball. My son played at the Division 3 level and was all region player 3 times and an all conference player as well. He had very good college stats.....averaging a .350-.380 BA every year with alot of RBIs and 4-5 Home Runs. I know its a tough answer since you prob havent seen him play but do you think he has a shot at playing Indy ball? Whats the level like at Indy ball....does an above average college D3 Player have a chance to excel there? He is been trying to contact teams via email but they seem to invite him to tryouts....are these tryouts worth it? Hope someone knows more than me!

Thanks
The FLY

As Jay-Z once said, "What you want me to say, I'm sorry? I'm back."

So I just perused the Plattsburgh schedule for 2011 ... he's got some powerhouses. Yes, he plays Heidelberg (and surely got the Cusic organizers to squeeze him in between two of the 'Berg's better matchups).

Among this year's highlights on Doorey's schedule:

-- Of his first five opponents (Old Westbury, Southern Maine, Ithaca, Dubuque and Milikin), none was better than 20-18 last season. Combined, they were 86-118-1. Quality.

-- He can play Utica (7-25), SUNY Canton (2-year school) and the powerhouse St. Michael's (6-27-1), but no RPI, Skidmore or St. Lawrence?

Guess 2010 taught no one anything ... you can't beat the sisters of the deceased and think you're getting into the NCAAs.

Ithaca and Southern Maine are substantial upgrades. Both had down years last year but have been perennial playoff contenders.

Dubuque, 11 wins.
Milikin, 11 wins.
Utica, 7 wins.
St. Michael's, 6 wins.
Canton?
And only 1 Liberty League team?

Not upgraded at all.

Don't be so hard on the pre-season 25th rated team in the country.  How about the people that vote on that committee.  Plattsburgh in the top 25!!  Nothing against them, I am not quite as critical as the "truth" man but are you kidding.  How could they even be considered ahead of a team, oh, say St. John Fisher in NY, or someone like that.  Pretty funny stuff.

I've said it before....the only poll that matters is the last one at the end of the season.  They are conversation starters and sometimes recruiting tools, other than that they mean nothing.  Especially in DIII college baseball where there are hundreds of schools, most of who rarely get out of their region to play.  I believe that Fisher and Skidmore both are not getting much respect since they won their leagues last year.  Fisher was not that far removed from winning the NY region instead of Cortland!

I don't know why "truth" is so bitter and angry.  You're taking years off of your life, man.

Play the games, beat who is front of you, win when it matters most, and see where the chips fall.

Truthfinder

Not bitter, not angry. Appreciate the concern, but naw, I'm straight.

Just telling it the way it is.

His "ace" had an ERA of 10.48 vs. SUNYAC teams last season. Think about that. And they're the 25th-best team in the country?

It's absurd.

Pre season polls are like opinions and --------- everyone has one but dont really matter except for discussion boards and off the field talk for fans. Players and coaches care less. Do on the field is only thing that counts.

At the end of the regular season the NCAA Regional rankings BEFORE the playoffs are the ones that count. Along with the SOS(Strength of Schedule), OWP/OOWP(Opponents Winning Percentage). If you play a weak schedule don't cry when your staying home at playoff time  because you won 30 games but had a weak SOS...or lost your conference tournament
This... is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball.  "There are three types of baseball players: those who make things happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happened."

Yeah I see your point on the poll before the play-offs being important.  Especially in college sports where there is a selection committee that has to sort things out.  You gotta get invited to the dance before you can prove you're worth of being there.

My point was intended to reflect that you are judged on what you accomplished on the field after the dust settles, not on speculative in-season blogging and polls.

baseballislife

That's "worthy" of being there.  I should proof read after spending a certain # of hours keyboarding. ::)

New to SUNYAC !! but looks to me like Oneonta has one of the tougher schedules going.Have a couple nice transfers in and think they will make a run at the SUNYAC title, and possibly regionals again.

DefenseWins

I dont see anyone challenging Cortland St. for the SUNYAC Title until they move out of the division. No knock on Oneonta but Cortland has dominated that conference for quite some time now.

Tarheel55

Yea, might be right, but I see Oneonta beat them twice last year and with the new bats this year defense will be at a premium. Not alot of cheap homeruns this year.

CobbSpikes2B

Cortland is just too good every year still don't know why there in SUNYAC really. However they are a lot weaker than usual this year... obviously because they lost some big names...anderson, nikiel's, dimino's and of course now simone. However they are still going to be solid and contenders...because they are cortland. Oneonta beat cortland twice because of one word and that is "Filak" Oneonta was weak 2 years ago and idk how good these transfers are but we will see i guess. Plattsburgh ranked in top 25... is definately a joke. I think they are scrimmaging St. Mary's for the Blind in the beginning of March as well. (kidding) But P-burgh should not be there i'm sorry at least someone who  actually accomplished stuff last year for example fisher did pretty darn good and several others as well. Sunyac seems up in the air this year really..new paltz with some good pitching still, fredonia always having a good hitting every year, brockport won the darn sunyac title (of course with some help of mother nature and some bi laws) I think this year is going to be a full start to finish one game season near the end especially with the new conference weekend formats.
