jdex grew up in nc but live in northeast, actually im a blue devils fan,now back to scheduling,it can work both ways, lets say Cortland ends the season with 29 wins and it loses the sunyac title and they dont make regionals will people look back and say dang,we should have started out with a team we had a better chance at beating at the start of the year. Now losing early is better than losing late in season. I just like the way Oneonta scheduled, first few games are games they should win, then they go into play u-mass boston, why would you not want a couple of tune up games before jumping in the deep end?For Cortland maybe its cockyness maybe arrogance maybe smart coaching ,we wont know til the season plays out.Hell Cortland has been there and done that. But the boys at Oneonta arnt afraid of the big bad wolf anymore and the hunter has now become the hunted.Take it for what its worth i feel Oneonta is the better of the two teams ,thats my opinion im entitled to it just like the Cortland faithfull feel they are better,we wont know til the end of season.

Ahhhhhhhh ..........hope springs eternal ......baseball season! Closer here in Florida. Have my spring training tickets.

As for Cortland Red Dragons, am certain no cockiness on Joe Brown's part. Wants his team ready, and facing quality competition, even early, is his way to go. Has a pretty good track record. Am sure he would have loved to be 4-0, but am pretty sure he's pleased with his team's showing. Would bet on it. Am interested to see box score of  Bridgewater game. Know temps were mild but wind was blowing gale-force at times. Sunday's game in mid-40s cloudy weather. Quite the pitching performances

Guess what we're saying is ....different coaches have different approaches

yep,I agree, I see someone said winds were bowing up to like 40 mph during the game, tough to compensate for those winds.

From Saturday ....

Cortland 14-13-1
Bridgewater 15-20-4

Red Dragon sr. vet M. Assmann started and held 5-1 lead into Bridgies fifth. Had five Ks, 0 bb. Three sophs and sr followed. Only one CSt error. Every Bridgie run earned. Cortland used 21 players. Jr. capt M. June 3x6, 3 bi, hr; soph A. Brevetti from Homer 3x4, 3 runs, 4 bi, hr; A. Pezzuto 2x2, 3 runs. And appears in tradition of strong catchers is fr T. Panetta. Hit safely in every game, went 6x14, hr, 2bh from cleanup slot till used as ph/lf in finale

Tarheel, I love the enthusiasm.  However, you have to get by Brockport first, then you can go after Cortland.  Brockport has been to the dance a bit more than Oneonta, and, has a much better history in the SUNYAC tournament.  Until Oneonta wins the tourny (SUNYAC) I can't put them in the same breath as Cortland, or Brockport.  I am not saying they can't though, they have good players and always have good players.  I think all i am getting at is when Cortland looks in the rearview, they look for Brockport  bit more than the other Red Dragon.

airball55, maybe your right we will just have to wait and see,but i think Cortland is worried about Oneonta more than you or others might be willing to admit.Oneonta lost one of the best pitchers in d3 last year with Filak turning pro,but no-one can say for sure wether or not Oneonta wouldnt have made regionals with out him he was I think 8 and 1 or something like that.Could they have won any of the games he pitched without him?We dont know thats the great thing about baseball. The Phillies have without question the best pitching corps since the Braves of years ago,but that doesnt mean they are guarenteed to win the World Series,(but if they dont it will be a huge dissapointment ha ha).Great listening to yours and others opinions though,it makes the season and off season fun.

Certainly no strike or not trying to take a shot at Oneonta who always has talent.  I compare them some to Rochester in the LL  in the sense that the postseason has not been kind to them.  Obviously, the big difference between the two is Cortland, they are a bit larger hurdle to jump then a LL team.  But with that said, Brockport is sometimes overlooked and frankly I don't get it.  It appears that these will be the three teams again barring any surprises.

DefenseWins

Oneonta is the Rochester of the SUNY AC as Skidmore is the Brockport of the LL. Oneonta and UR always fold out in playoffs, granted they are always there which is a feat in itself. And at least Oneonta doesn't crumble like Plattsburgh. Skidmore seems to win the LL every so often and Brockport is always in the championship with Cortland and is the only other team other than Cortland to win the SUNY AC in the past decade.

Pitching is obviously down in the SUNYAC this year, with several dominant pitchers leaving.  Oneonta has good pitching returning despite Filak leaving, and Brockport seems to have enough returning.  Plattsburgh brings back most of their staff but can they pitch in the SUNYACs?  Cortland still has to be the favorite strictly based on their reputation and coaching, but with so much leaving they seem to be leaving the field open.  I like New Paltz to not necessarily be in the tournament, but maybe play the spoiler in some big games.

Tarheel0550

Well so much for the new bats keeping scores down,if the early game results are any indication of of what we will see this year they dont seem to be helping.Talked to a player from the SUNYAC today about the bats and he said as long as you square them up the ball seems to be traveling just as far as with the old ones.I do think your better hitters wont really have a problem with them, its the lifetime .230 hitter that gets hold of a flyer every now and then that will have the most problems with them.Whats everyone elses opinion on them so far?

Truthfinder

Plattsburgh out of the Top 25 already? Did they lose to St. Michaels or Clinton Community College or the University of Ogdensburg or something?

Or did voters just come to their senses?

Truthfinder

And credit to voters for keeping Cortland in the poll at 1-3. They know who the class of the SUNYAC is.

Tarheel0550

I dont know if I would "credit" the voters for anything when they still have Linfield in the top ten at 6-3.I think its more that the season hasnt gone into full swing yet so no sense making huge moves on placement yet.And remember, its not where you start in the polls, its where you finish. As far as Cortland being the Class of the SUNYAC,thats still to be decided, let the season play out before we mail the trophy to Cortland.

Three-N-Two

Cortlands success this year will be determined by "Hitting", more importantly "Timely Hitting"! Last year's 2nd place finish was accomplished with an explosive offense. Coach Brown has his work cutout for him finding the right mix of players, many of which are new to the program. The returning rotation of pitchers with the addition of Aaron Schuldt will keep them in close games, with hitting being the determining factor. So far transitioning from the gym to the field has been slow, but if the coach figures out the lineup and they get their timing at the plate worked out, Cortland is deserving of its ranking in the top 25 and still the team to chase in the SUNYAC. Go C-State Red Dragons!
