Cortland State once again trying for a stranglehold on the spring sports championships. Men's Lacrosse team won the SUNYAC title today beating Brockport 7-6.

The Women's Lacrosse team won their 37th straight game over the past two years defeating Brockport today 16-11 to win the SUNYAC championship again. The Red Dragons are the top ranked team in the nation and will be looking to defend their National Championship they won last year.

The Red Dragon softball team remains undefeated in the YAC tournament and will face Buffalo State on Sunday for the championship. The Bengals will have to defeat Cortland twice to claim the title. Good luck with that.

And that brings us to the defending National Champion baseball team who is undefeated in the SUNYAC championship after today's games. The Red Dragon's will face Oswego on Sunday for the title. THe Lakers will have to win 2 games to dethrone the Red Dragons.

Cortland captures conference playoff crown with 3-1 victory over Oswego at the host's Wallace Field. Lakers strike in their eighth via one-out walk, W. Randall double and B. Hamilton rbi groundout. Randall left at third when J. Cooke induces E. Hamilton groundout to second. Leave runners on first and second in the ninth against reliever T. Parry who arrives after Cooke issues one-out walk, then one ball to J. Barnes. Parry walks Barnes before recording full-count swinging strikeout and flyout to left.
Corts just four hits, Oswego five -- three in the first two innings when RDragon righty Cooke strands Lakers in scoring position. Cortland scores in the second on F. Ricci walk, sac bunt and S. Figueroa rbi single. Makes it 3-0 in the third on one-out walk followed by P. Dondero home run to left. Corts leave the bases loaded in the fifth and two aboard in the sixth. Oswego starts N. Boughton (5.2inn, 3r, 3er, 6bb, 2k, 93 pitches). JM Guarino in relief pitches out of the trouble in the sixth. Still on in the eighth to set down the Dragons 1-2-3 style.
Cooke retires eight straight till J. Giller one-out double in the seventh. Cooke uses just 10 pitches to retire the side but leaves with one out in the ninth with 125 pitches (8.1inn, 1r, 1er, 5h, 3bb, 5k)
Cortland dominate tourney pitching evident in all-tourney selections -- as in Parry, T. Whiteman, S. Lamando and mvp J. Cooke. F. Ricci and P. Dondero selected along with Oswego's Z. Kollar, W. Randall, E. Hamilton. Brockporters C. Davis, W. Burghardt round out tourney's elite.
RDragons' sixth straight tourney title. Conference champions 23 of the last 26 years, and 34th overall since 1959 inception
Cortland 37-5 and 16 straight wins and hosting NCAA NY Regional at Auburn up next. Oswego 32-9 under former Cortland standout pitcher S. Landers. Lakers also bound for NCAA tourney play

Good job again this season for keeping us so well informed, jdex. Plus K.

Good luck to all the Red Dragon teams in pursuit of more National Championships. Hope you go 4 for 4, but I'll be happy with a couple.

jdex,

I see that nephew Sam is having another superb year. Could he go back to back POY? Also see that Sam has a younger brother that looks like a good hurler and a decent infielder as well. Leads the team with an ERA of 1.38.
