Cortland absorbs double dose of defeat Saturday at cold, breezy Baltimore Invite, bowing 9-0 to Roanoke Maroons and 7-2 to host Johns Hopkins. RDragons manage mere 10 hits on the day.
Corts fail to generate any serious offense and finish with six hits against Roanoke. First four hitters 0x12 with five Ks before yielding to reserves after Marooons erupt for seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Unearned run provides 1-0 Roanoke edge till then. Z. Durant of C-St. pitches into the sixth (LP, 1-2, 5inn, 5h, 4r, 3er, 4bb, 5k) followed by M. Funk (.1, 4h, 4er, 3er, 2bb), L. Krasney (2.2inn, 1h, 1r, 1er, 2bb, 2k). Roanoke's T. James starts but departs after fanning first two Corts. D. Checkosky enters (WP, 1-0, 7.1inn, 4h, 1bb, 4k). Cortland 0-6-2, Roanoke 9-10-0
Roanoke 6-4. Maroons drop earlier Saturday 6-5 verdict to Marietta OH which edges Hopkins 2-1 Friday

Second game finds Cortland and Hopkins locked up 1-1 until Blue Jays take charge with four-run third inning. Sophomore righty M. Dillard tosses complete game four-hitter with 10 strikeouts, no walks. Both Dragon runs unearned. J. Varian 2x4, bi for Cortland, M. Ritchie 3x4 for the Jays. Lefty S. Buchan LP (2.1inn, 4h, 4r, 4ear, 5k). S. Mugnola, K. Taborne, S. Weyand, M. Hennessy share relief roles. Corts 2-4-2, JH 7-9-2
Cortland 4-4 and facing 2-0 Marietta on Sunday. Johns Hopkins 3-3

so here's one I've never seen before. Oswego and Wesley are each claiming that Oswego swept today's doubleheader 17-1 and 13-3. I believe both games were scheduled for 7 innings; Game 2 went 7 innings.

Oswego led 17-1 after the top of the 4th in the opener when apparently both coaches agreed to just stop and move on to Game 2. Wesley never even batted in the bottom of the 4th....isn't this game a no contest and none of Oswego's 17 RBI or 5 home runs count? Why in the world didn't they just go through the motions to get through 7 and declare the 10-run rule? Shouldn't both coaching staffs have known better?

Marietta squares it in the fourth and on D. Yenzi three-run homer forges 4-1 lead in the fifth. Adds three in the sixth when outfield miscue clears loaded bases. Marietta adds two more home runs. Picks on four Cortland pitchers including starter J. Valentino (5inn, 5h, 4r, 4er, 5k), then D. Lyskawa, S. Roberts, P. Franzese. N. Brown WP (8inn, 4h, 1r, 1er, 1bb, 9k). Cortland losing streak reaches six games. Drops twinbill Sunday to Montclair in Aberdeen MD by 15-10 and 11-10 scores. Two teams rap 73 hits, 35 by the RDragons!!
First game virtually settled by 12-run Red Hawk fourth inning to erase 6-1 Cortland lead taken in the top of the frame. Corts sent 11 to bat in six run raid that saw R. Sisto two-run double. Montclair then bats a bunch as Dragons use five pitchers trying to stem the Jerseyites quick response.  Hawks get nine hits and Cortland contributes two errors to the 12 run spree. J. Varian 3x5, 4, 2bi while Z. Durant starts for C-St. and pitches into the decisive fourth. M. Funk LP. Cortland in all sends six hurlers to the gallows. Red Hawk C. Walker 3-run homer, J. Norton 3x5, 4bi. M. Mincieli WP as second of three Montclair pitchers. Cortland 10-16-2, Montclair 15-17-0
Second game goes to the bottom of the ninth inning where two singles and walk precede J. Bates' one-out game-winning single up the middle breaking 10-10 tie. Cortland knots it in the top of the ninth on J. Varian two-out two-run single. Dragons see early 5-1 and 7-4 advantages disappear to five-run Montclair fifth inning. C. BeVard 4x5 for Corts, Varian 3x6, 4bi; M. Bruno 3x5, A. Donofrio 3x4; B. Rhodes 3bi. J. Valentino (3inn, 8h, 4r, 4er, 2bb, 3k) followed to the Dragon mound by three others. B. Gauthier LP (2.1inn, 4h, 1r, 1er, 2b, 3k). Seven Hawks with at least two hits, three with four. Cortland strands 11 runners, Montclair 12. Cortland 10-19-2, Montclair 11-21-0
Cortland 4-7 and starting spring slate in Lexington SC on Friday vs. Case Western. Montclair 7-4

Devastated to see all baseball suspended for the remainder of the year. Heartbreaking for all seniors... hopefully the NCAA doesn't try to do anything shady in regards to their eligibility... that would be entirely unfair to rob kids of their final season. Hoping everyone stays healthy and safe out there! Guess we will catch up next season.

It will be strange to see Cortland end the season with a losing record and out of the Top 25.
