anyone have any knowledge about the pitching behind potter and the new paltz lineup? Do they still have that little crafty lefty?

Bob Maxwell

It appears that IF there isn't a conference tournament, that the ECAC tournament can be exempt from counting against the 40 game limit as it can be declared as the end of season tournament that gets that exemption.

I wasn't sure about that when I made the previous post... thanks for the clarification.

However, even with that being the case... I still can't imagine why any school in the conference (other the Cortland) would vote to eliminate the conference tournament.  And I only single out Cortland becasue of their present status as the perenial top team... not to create any adversarial position.  Who knows what the power structure in the conference will be in a year or two?

Guru, I ahve no first hand knowledge of their pithcers, but looking at last years stats they have guys who have thown a lot of collegiate innings, who will all need to take a big step forward if they are to move up and crack the top 4....  Donohue is one who could do that if he returns to his 2006 form.  If that happens they will be in the mix.  And as you say, Potter can hold anyone down on any day...  In addtion they have several freshman pitchers.  It doesn't happen to often, but if one of them adjusts to pitchign in college quickly they will be interesting to watch.  My opinion is they are on the way up and will be in the mix for the tourament.

Nice to hear early baseball fever. Here in Florida we're a tad ahead of the game anyway. Were anxious to see spring Cortland action .......but the Red Dragons will be Arizona-bound March 9-16 when Weaton (MA), College of NJ, Bowdoin, Dickinson, Hopkins and W. Paterson will supply competition.
Cortland opens Feb. 22 at NC Wesleyan, plays the next day at Randolph-Macon (VA) vs. R-M and Rowan, and faces Mary Washongton (VA) the 24th. Other N-L dates with Montclair, IC, Susquehanna, Old Westbury, Manhattanville, Mt. St. Vince, St. Joes (NY), Caz and Hamilton

How is Cortland going to look this year? Any players to watch out for?
16 USA South/ Dixie Conference titles, 12 Regional titles, 2  World Series titles

NCWC: Am sure others will point you to earlier posts on this site.

Cortland has plenty. In fact, possibly best ever. Solid vets all around including pitching, tremendous depth. Fine newcomers including several transfers .......but as we said, check some earlier posts. They're on the money.
And Cortland going to Arizona this spring is a one year thing. Cortland was checking other options since previous Port Charlotte site is new training locale for Tampa Bay Rays

NCWC, you looking for a scouting report since your squad plays Cortland this spring?  Go to the game and you'll find out just who to watch out for, that would be everyone.  I'm not one to put much into rankings but how do you think Cortland might be if they're ranked preseason #2 in the only poll that has been released thus far?

sunyacguru

Cortland is set up to make one heck of a run in my opinion. They have solid pitching and their offense may be the best its ever been

StarvinMarvin

NCWC....Smith, Pecora and whoever else can run on your club won't be doing so on that day unless they want to get hosed.  Tell Coach Long he's going to have to play station to station that day and his left-handed hitters are in trouble because Cortland has two of the best LHP's in the country.

I've never posted here before, but have enjoyed reading up on some of the preseason thoughts.  As a Cortland fan, I personally wanted to thank Scuba16 for throwing the old Kibosh on the Red Dragons before they even get going.

Adding those kids to the returning players may give C-State its best chance to date at a National Championship in 2008!

From reading some of the previous posts, it almost looks like Scuba16 has coached or even played before, which makes this type of pre-emptive jinxing all the harder to believe.  I really hope that C St. is good this year because on top of having every team in the region gunning for them, now they've been cursed.

In all seriousness, it should be a good year for upstate baseball.  Dragons are the team to beat, but the SUNYAC seems to be getting better every year.  It's also good to see Cortland's early non conference schedule.  Love em or hate em, they're not afraid to play anybody.

Cortland opens practice on Sunday. Opening trip to NC and VA should be especially difficult. Dragons' Kurt Heaton is brother to ex-CSt. baseball/football Neal, sons of ex-big league hurler Neal Sr. Southpaw Kurt should help out of bullpen with 85-plus fastball .....

Your welcome pudge27 and whomever else thinks I jinxed Cortland. We will see how the season plays out but if you think some 34 yr old bald guys analysis/guess/preview of a college baseball season is a jinx, lets just remember that the game is played on the field and anything can happen on any given day!

Jeez and people think I'm hard on people.

Scuba16,  I'm sorry.  I didn't realize that you were so sensitive.  You're absolutely right.  The game is played on the field.  All in all, I don't think you're going to hear John Sterling opening up his yap when Mussina is 6 outs away from a no....wait a minute, never mind.  That won't happen.  That's just dumb.  And.....are you suggesting that I'm bald or are you bald?? No wait, it's gotta be YOUR bull.

I'm most definately the folically challenged one there greg tolan. Nice gloves! TPK  4 life

Not to put my head in the lion's mouth over here on the SUNYAC board but I think there are bigger problems than just the curse Pudge.

I'm no historian but, isn't this season Cortland's only chance to win the 2008 National Championship?
