d3baseball.com has cortland as the team to beat in the NY region, also mentions plattsburgh as a team to possibly play up to par with them. Congrats to both SUNYAC teams on being mentioned on the national level in the pre-season.

SUNYAC opening day is tomorrow and the board has dryed up...   guess we are all going through rosters, stats and our projections.   ;D

Does anyone know if there is an audio or live stats link to the Cortland games this weekend? or the New paltz games next weekend?

The weather in NC isn't supposed to be too good at all tomorrow so I doubt the Cortland/NC Wesleyan game will even be played.

With it being opening day... that would be tough to have to sit around the hotel for an entire day (or two).  Hope it clears up...  but the weather doesn't  look good for the next two days...

Drought conditions in N.C. .....till Friday.  Cortland at NC Wesleyan canceled

Red Dragons today in Ashland, Va. vs. Rowan and the Macon Whoopies. Cool as in 42 degrees and cloudy

Bob Maxwell

I see a score...

Rowan 5
Cortland 2

But not a box score yet for any details...

That's an interesting result.  I mean even if your the pre-season favorite, who's to say who is going to win on any given day.  The box score and game summary will be interesting reading.  MAN, I can't believe its baseball time again.  Wha-who!!

Curious to see a box score also.  Rowan is no slouch.  Doesn't surprise me one bit that they could take one from Cortland.. First game of the year and all especially.. Anything can happen when two strong teams play eachother.

Cortland 12, Randolph Macon 2, called in 8th by darkness

Dumb question...can you have a cancellation due to low clouds? Anyone ever seen it? I'm envisioning like a 100 foot ceiling where a popup gets lost in the clouds.

I ask because even if it wasn't raining the clouds were so low over NC and SC and the mist so thick that I imagine it would have been an adventure.

The Randolph Macon web site has the score and box score up as 7-2... as a 7 inning game... it was scheduled for 9, but halted in the top of the 8th due to darkness...  doesn't any part of the 8th that was played get wiped out in that case?

Also, I think the winning pitcher is incorrect in the box score... the game was tied when he left the game.

Good question Spence... I've never seen it, but if it is unsafe conditions I guess it could happen.

Here's the box score from the RMC web site:

It is not up yet on the Cortland site.

NCAA scoring rules actually state that stats from an incomplete inning actually do count if the outcome of the game is not affected. For example, if a team trails 2-1 entering the top of the eighth and scores twice to take a 3-2 lead, but the game is called (darkness, rain, etc.), then the game reverts back to the last completed inning and all stats from that top of the eighth don't count. Stats do count, however, as long as the winning/losing team isn't affected.

Therefore, since Cortland led 7-2 entering the top of the eighth, the five runs they scored (and all of the individual stats from the inning) will count, since Cortland is the winner regardless. The final score should be 12-2.

Randolph-Macon posted yesterday's score without knowledge of this rule (to their defense, it's not an overly well-known rule), but they have been informed and the score should most likely be changed to 12-2.

As a follow-up to my last post, this is from the NCAA Baseball Rule Book in the "Scoring" section (the boldface is mine):

Called/Forfeited Game and No Contest
SECTION 28. a. If a regulation game is called, include the record of all individual and team actions up to the moment the game ends as specified in Rule 5-8-b.

A.R. 1—If the scoring during an incomplete inning has no bearing on the outcome of the contest, include all individual and team records.

Fran,

Thanks... I did not know that.  We just keep on learning as we go with this game...  With so many different sets of rules that are slightly different is some areas it is always worth asking about it to be sure its correct.

Any insight on the winning pitcher?  I think it should be Hooper as he was in the game when the lead was taken for good.

Thanks again, always good to pick up something new... makes me feel younger.
