It ain't true, dahlby. Kentucky Wesleyan won the 1968 College Division title.

Chapman did win the College Division title in baseball that year, so perhaps that's the cause of the confusion.

I was trying to go back and trace the path of The Belt^TM from the beginning (starting with the champs of the first D3 tourney in 1975) but obviously the d3hoops pages don't go that far back. Massey seems to have the games going back to the 02-03 season so I started with the 2002 champs Otterbein and went from there. I was shocked by 2 facts about that season (assuming all the games are listed and correct)... first that The Belt^TM spent most of the season in the HCAC with my Grizzlies holding it on two occasions and second... that The Belt^TM did not spend the summer with Williams who won the NCAA tourney. Transylvania managed to get The Belt^TM in their penultimate game and held on to it while not making the conference tourney. I haven't proceeded through the following years yet but my guess is that The Belt^TM has likely spent the other summers with the NCAA champs.

I don't believe Transy was eligible for the NCAA Tournament that season, so I don't think those games would have The Belt^TM on the line.

So does your participation here signify you've now accepted the Belt as legitimate?

and saw that it is written that Chapman College won the
1968 National College Division Title held in
Springfield NJ
Maybe someone can enlighten me if the CU website needs correction.
A couple of Chapman oldtimers chronicled the history of CU sports from way back and it is posted on the athletics web site

The Chapman baseball team climbed to its greatest heights in 1968 as the Panthers Won the N.C.A.A. National College Division Championship at Springfield, Missouri, the first ever held, bringing home the first national championship won by Chapman in any sport. Pitcher Don Richards struck out 134 batters, including 17 in one game, vs U.C.R. he pitched 150 innings, all of which were all-time Chapman records and won 12 games, and was selected to the first team All-American squad. Freshman John Young set the all-time record for stolen bases with 27 and outfielder Tony Spano established the all-time RBI record with 50 and was selected as the most valuable player in the national playoffs. Paul Deese was selected as N.C.A.A. Pacific Coast Coach of the year, as he had been in 1966, and was named as the national Coach of the Year in the N. C.A.A. College Division, the first recipient of that award from the western states.

The Belt^TM gained sentience abut 2010. Fortunately It^TM doesn't come back home very often, because It^TM makes me sleep in the garage.
