I was actually thinking of the two Sicilian prostitutes in the WWII novel Catch-22 when I posted it (their heads were shaved by the townspeople because they slept with German soldiers). But Britney Spears is even more in keeping with the general tenor of a D3 Championship Belt than is any literary reference. :D

So do we have Colonel Cathcart making out the men's brackets?  :P

and could Milo Minderbinder be the bracket buster?  :)

No. the bracket buster is Lieutenant Scheisskopf.   ;D

I was sitting in senior high school AP English, bored stiff with another recitation of Beowulf and sneaking in some reading in Catch-22 when I came to the Colonel Cathcart chapter.

The sad thing about that is that I could not ROTFLMAO.  I had to squelch the best literary laugh that I have ever experienced.  :D

Who is Major Major Major Major?   ???  :)

G'day mates!  Hampden-Sydney keeps the D-III Championship BeltTM down under in the ODAC, by defeating Hood 68-65 in a first round NCAA tournament game.  The stage is now set for Virginia Wesleyan, BeltTM holders to start the season, to attempt to reclaim the "Leather and Baubles" (I might trademark that phrase too.)

Next D-III Championship BeltTM match:  Hampden-Sydney at Virginia Wesleyan, TODAY.

Once, twice, three times a Marlin.  Va. Wesleyan takes back what they rightfully believe to be theirs, the D-III Championship BeltTM.  VWC holds the BeltTM for the third time season after beating Hampden-Sydney 61-51.  Yes, Viriginia, there is a Championship BeltTM.

Well, site is regrettably VWC.  The Marlins carry the belt into 16, and they're in danger of hanging on to it into the final four.  Miss. College, Lincoln, and Guilford are obstacles that should provide plenty of fun, though.

Greek Tragedy

And just think, Guilford could have it for a 3rd time too.

I think that to win the belt from VWC, you're going to have to pry it from their cold, dead hands.
Er something.  :P

Following the BeltTM thread here on D3hoops has become a favorite past time for me...I think the BeltTM may be Just Bill's ticket to future Hall of Fame status.

Good Luck on that Just Bill.

I don't know about that. What could be worse than the maid knocking over the Ralph Turner bust and breaking it on the floor while dusting in the HOF rotunda? Now they'll have to sculpt a new one, which also means that we'll have to wait another year for the HOF bobbleheads to come out.

The good news is that the HOF Pez dispensers should be out in time to make great stocking-stuffers for the kids for Christmas. The one with Sac's head looks supersweet!

Virginia Wesleyan retains the D-III Championship BeltTM 81-55 over Mississippi College.  I don't care whose ring you fought in, that's a whoopin'.  That sets up a tasty BeltTM rematch between two teams who have each held the leather multiple times this year.  It's Ali-Foreman!  It's Tyson-Holyfield!  It's Spears-Aguilera all rolled into one!

Nov. 17-Nov. 27 - Virginia Wesleyan
Nov. 27-Jan. 2 - Averett
Jan. 2-Jan. 7 - Guilford

It's always hard to know how the BeltTM will get to its final destination, but it seems approrpriate that last year's D-III Championship BeltTM holders will take it back to Salem.  Va. Wesleyan downs Guilford 81-71.  Ding! Ding! Let's get ready to rummmmble! [Damn, now I have to pay royalties to that hack Michael Buffer]  Let's get it on! [Ugh, more royalties!]

Next D-III Championship BeltTM match:   Washington (Mo.) vs. Virginia Wesleyan, Friday in a National Semifinal.

We'll see if the UAA can finally rip the leather out of the ODAC's hands.

I'm a little behind so we'll just point out that Va. Wesleyan defeated Wash U. to hang out to the BeltTM.

Next D-III Championship BeltTM match:   Amherst vs. Virginia Wesleyan, Saturday in the National Championship Game.

Which brings us to....

Amherst!  The Lord Jeffs treated Virginia Wesleyan like Lady Marmalade to claim rights to the D-III Championship BeltTM for at least the next six and a half months.  My inside sources in Amherstland tell me the BeltTM will be on display in the lobby of their gym, under guard and surveillance cameras.  It will be on display for only 10 minutes every hour due to the continued deterioration of Ralph Turner's photograph.  Lines are sure to be long.  Camp out, if necessary.

For the official record, the D-III Championship BeltTM path to Amherst:

Nov. 17-Nov. 27 - Virginia Wesleyan
Nov. 27-Jan. 2 - Averett
Jan. 2-Jan. 7 - Guilford
Jan. 7-Jan. 27 - Virginia Wesleyan
Jan. 27-Jan. 28 - Emory & Henry
Jan. 28-Feb. 7 - Randolph-Macon
Feb. 7-Feb. 10 - Bridgewater (Va.)
Feb. 10-Feb. 22 - Guilford
Feb. 22-Feb. 24 - Bridgewater (Va.)
Feb. 24-Feb. 25 - Roanoke
Feb. 25-March 3 - Hampden-Sydney
March 3-March 17 - Virginia Wesleyan
March 17-Next Season - Amherst

Thanks for indulging in this foolishness.
