Bill, you ought to fly out to Colorado Springs and have the honor of throwing out the first metal folding chair.

Why did they have to start games so early this year?  I'm going to be in Colorado Springs the following weekend when there are no d3 games.

The Championship Belt has just moved to Elmhurst, Illinois as the Bluejays top the undefeated Bears of Washington U. 82-75.  Elmhurst may not hang onto it very long, though as they face a good Anderson team on the road on Jan. 3rd. The Ravens are 6-3 and travel to Texas over the holidays for 2 games there, before taking on Elmhurst, who is idle until that matchup with Anderson. 2 of the Ravens 3 losses have come against #1 Wash. U 70-68 and #3 UW-Platteville 66-64. If Elmhurst gets by the Ravens they're on the road against #8 Augustana on Jan. 7th.

Ah you beat me to it!  The BeltTM also moves to the CCIW after being in the UAA for about...forever.

And I've just become a rabid Blue Jay fan until the CCIW conference season begins! ;D

As deep and balanced as the CCIW seems to be this season, there may be a real possibility that The BeltTM ends up with a team that doesn't make the tournament.  I've forgotten whether or not a provision has been made for that contingency?

Gregory Sager

The BeltTM stays with its rightful owner, Chuck, which is the last team to win possession of it. You can't lose it unless another team takes it away from you -- just like a wrestler can't lose his belt if he happens to miss a meet.

There have been seasons in which the BeltTM has resided with a team that didn't make the tournament, but which nevertheless won its last game of the season (and thus retained the BeltTM).

Ah, easy come easy go!  Quoth the Anderson Ravens to Elmhurst, you have the BeltTM NEVERMORE!  Anderson takes the D3 Championship BeltTM from Elmhurst 97-92.

The BeltTM seems likely to stay in the Heartland until the postseason unless 1-10 Earlham can shock the world.

Start-Dec. 19 - Washington Univ.
Dec. 20-Jan. 2 - Elmhurst
Jan. 3-Present - Anderson

In honor of the new title holder, I'll offer a Karma point to the poster who can provide the most obscure reference connecting Edgar Allen Poe to anybody named Anderson.

Isn't Anderson's Tobacco Emporium the place where Mary Rogers worked, the supposed subject of "Mystery of Marie Rogêt"?

I don't think the Heartland has ever had an unbeaten team, in fact I think the Heartland has usually had some of the best parity around.  The belt will most certainly pass hands a few times in the coming months.

There's only 2 chances for the belt to leave the Heartland Conference.........the first the previously mentioned Earlham v Anderson game Jan 6, .........the second would be if the belt makes it into Transylvania's hand by  Jan 30 when Transylvania takes on Wittenberg.

takenote
Jan 17  Anderson @ Transylvania........though there is no guarantee Anderson will still be in posession of the belt by then.

Stunning on three levels:
1. He answered the challenge.
2. He answered the challenge in just 39 minutes, 18 seconds
3. He knows how to put a "^" on top of the "e" to get the correct French spelling.

Karma earned.

A whole ATN feature on Anderson and no mention of the precious Championship BeltTM that they loving polish and protect?  What would Rodney Dangerfield say about that?   ;D
