Let the world tour begin again! The D-III Championship BeltTM spent the entire summer sunning under the Arch and watching the Cardinals at Busch.  But now, it's time again. The first challenger awaits!

Current BeltTM holder: Washington University

Next Battle for the BeltTM: Sun. Nov. 15 - Wash U vs. MacMurray

If you don't know what I'm talking about, you are required by law to start at Page 1 and read the entire thread from start to finish. Then submit an essay to me entitled "What the D-III Championship BeltTM means to me." 3-5 pages, 10-point Times New Roman, double spaced.

Thank goodness I only had to only go back to the first dozen pages and didn't have to write the "essay"  ;D

We're just a few precious days away from the season's beginning! ;D

The Sunday (Nov. 15) matchup between Washington U. and MacMurray marks the 95th time the BeltTM has been up for grabs.

The Washinton U. Bears come in as the all time leader in D3 Championship BeltTM contest wins (15) and days held (522). The Bears maintain an overall record of 15-4 in games in which the BeltTM is on the line, including an astounding 13-1 record in BeltTM defense attempts.:o

This will be MacMurray's first shot at Belt,TM and the SLIAC's third overall attempt at D3 Championship BeltTM glory. The previous two SLIAC attempts, losses by Eureka and Fontbonne, were both at the hands of these same Washington U. Bears.:-\  The MacMurray Highlanders will become the 61st team to compete for the Belt.TM

Good Luck!

Very impressive!  When you have TWO colleges/universities named after you (check survivor league page for reference), you should know these types of things! lol :-)  I think Just Bill might have been unseated!  ::) ;D :D ;)

I'm not here to unseat anyone, I merely needed a fix of D3 basketball in the offseason so I made tracking the BeltTM one of my projects (you know, one of those killing time while at work projects ;)) I now have a record of every game involoving the BeltTM since it was first retroactively awarded to Virginia Wesleyan for the 2006-2007 season.

Should Wash U retain the belt on Sunday against MacMurray I plan to be in Bloomington, IL the following weekend to inspect the Belttm to ensure that it has been treated well by the Bears.

You don't unseat Just Bill. If you do, he'll take that metal folding chair you've unseated him from and give you a good whack with it. Then he'll climb up on the turnbuckle and give you an imploding senton bomb faster than you can say "Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan."

And you don't want that, do you?

Wash U big win today over MacMurray.  AT finishes with 24.  Imaging software acting up.  Try to remedy soon.

Bears Win! The BeltTM stays with Washington University!

The 88-53 win over the MacMurray Highlanders stretches the Bears' record for days held to 528. Their current streak of 247 days is the third longest in D3 BeltTM history (Amherst 266 days in 2007, WashU 281 days in 2008). Will this year's Bears become the first to win The Belt TM in March and retain it until the new year?

Next up for Washington U is Ohio Wesleyan on November 21.

This will be the first time the Battling Bishops have the opportunity to battle for The BeltTM. The NCAC had one previous attempt at The Belt,TM an 81-74 Earlham loss to Anderson last winter. Ohio Wesleyan would become the Great Lakes Region's second D3 BeltTM Champion (Carnegie Mellon, 2008).

I have concern over the BeltTM falling into the hands of the Battling Bishops. Not that OWU wouldn't be worthy to hold it should they earn it, but I am afraid of the alterations they might make to the BeltTM.

Clergy are not exactly snazzy dressers, and the BeltTM is well-known for it's dynamic display of baubles and gewgaws.  What if the Bishops disapporve and strip it of it's rhinestone glory and turn the BeltTM into a belt?  I fear the BeltTM may not be welcome in a house of worship.  (It does have a rather unseemly history.)

Maybe we need an OWU fan to assure the security of the BeltTM should it pass hands on Saturday.

Fear not.  If by some inexplicable cosmic cataclysm, the Bishops take it; the Titans will immediately restore it to more experienced hands.  And I have every faith that the Titans would show proper decorum re: the BeltTM.

Present.  Personally, I think the BeltTM looks good with a cassock, as shown below.  If and when OWU wrests the BeltTM from the claws of the Bears and defends it against those "other" Wesleyans, the Bishops will restore the Dignity that the BeltTM deserves but has long lacked.

Actually, a complete lack of dignity (and taste, and style, etc.) is one of the BeltTM's most recognizable qualities.  If someone gets any dignity on it, warm water and mild soap on a lambskin washcloth should take care of it.
