That was beautiful. It always makes me so happy when someone really captures the essence of this board. I think I might cry.

I dunno. I saw the first picture, and my eyes glazed over. I hope the rest of his post was good.

Pomona-Pitzer travels to Redlands tonight to take on the Bulldogs. Can the Sagehens fly away with The BeltTM or will Claremont-Mudd-Scripps have their chance to take it when Redlands makes a visit on Saturday night?  Word has come out of Claremont that the Stags are sharpening their hooves in anticipation. They would prefer their opportunity to be on Saturday, but if the Sagehens do make off with The BeltTM the Stags would get another crack at it on January 18th. Unless Caltech wins it from the Sagehens on January 14th.  How  8-) would that be. ;D

The Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer have some shiny new baubles and bling with which to line their nest as they carried off The BeltTM from Redlands Currier Gymnasium last night. The Sagehens grabbed the lead on a first half buzzer beating trifecta and used that momentum to score the first 6 points of the 2nd period. They never relinquished the lead as they went on to defeat the Bulldogs 60-51 which unleashed a wild celebration of the highest magnitude. They literally flew from rafter to rafter displaying The BeltTM in all its' splendor. This is the first time they have possessed The BeltTM and a security detail was quickly called upon to escort The BeltTM back to Claremont.

Their first defense of the fabled treasure will come on Saturday evening against none other than the Caltech Beavers. The irony that a team with one of the worst records in all of Division 3 could possibly become the next holder of The BeltTM has media representatives from every corner of the nation making plans to descend on the Rains Center this Saturday. The President of Caltech has declared the contest "the singular most important basketball game in the history of Caltech athletics". He exhorted all Caltech students and alumni to "pack the house this Saturday and make the Sagehens feel like a visiting team on their home court".

The Stags of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps were extremely disappointed when they discovered they wouldn't be playing for a chance to claim The BeltTM on Saturday when they take on Redlands. Their coach was heard to say that "this only delays the inevitable and one week from today The BeltTM will be ours." The players were happy to hear that at least The BeltTM was taking up residence in their city, even if it is in the hands of their crosstown rivals. On Wednesday January 18th, the Staggs will travel to the Rains Center and put their, most likely, 14-0 record (barring an upset by Redlands Saturday) on the line. Only now, the stakes for this game have risen to an all time high. A national ranking, an undefeated record, D3's most sought after prize, all between 2 teams from the same city. It doesn't get any better than this. Only Caltech stands in the way of this historic meeting.

The Sagehens become the first female holders of The BeltTM with their win tonight--judging gender by the mascot, that is. It had to happen in California!

If Caltech could win the BeltTM that would be epic. I might have to retire it on the spot. I'm not sure we could have a more deserving holder.

I think the ultimate would be for Redlands to have the BeltTM again on February 21, and then the Beavers win so the belt stays at Cal Tech for the entire SCIAC and NCAA tournament.

I can imagine a lot worse places one could spend March than Pasadena.

smeds,
You are in danger of being fined by Just Bill for trademark infringement. You've been getting pretty lackadaisical lately with the manner in which you been referring to The Belt.TM I've noticed that in a number of your posts you have been referring to The BeltTM as the BeltTM and on occasion you have failed to use the proper trademark and capitalization. I point this out as both offenses have occured in this one post. I'm not sure what to attribute this nonchalant usage to, as a seasoned veteran poster, you certainly know the rules and regulations that apply to The Belt.TM

The Caltech players got their first ever glimpse of The BeltTM Saturday evening when The Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens paraded the coveted trophy around the Rains Center before their game. Apparently just viewing this treasured object was too much for the Beavers as the brilliance of The BeltTM seemed to leave them beltstruck. They immediately fell behind by double digits and were, at no point in the game, remotely close to winning the contest. The final score was 71-47.

The Sagehens will now ready themselves for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags who will invade the Rains Center on Wednesday January 18th. The Stags will bring an undefeated 14-0  record with them, in this battle for not only The Belt,TM but sole possession of first place in the SCIAC.
