There once was a BeltTM from Nantucket.
Wooster kept it today by a bucket.
The other teams cry
As hopes go bye-bye,
And at Wabash they just say {oh, darn}.

[Maybe I should have waited for hasanova! :P]

I prefer trochaic tetrameter...

By the shores of Gitche Gumee,
    By the shining Big-Sea-Water,
    Stood the wigwam of Nokomis,
    Daughter of the Moon, Nokomis.
Dark behind it rose the forest,
Rose the black and gloomy pine-trees,
    Rose the firs with cones upon them;
Bright before it beat the water,
Beat the clear and sunny water,
    Beat the shining Big-Sea-Water.

;)

Hamm's, the beer refreshing???

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was hearing tom-toms and picturing a cartoon bear as I read Ralph's recitation of Longfellow's The Song of Hiawatha.

Not too much action here in year 4 of The BeltTM.

Year 1 saw The BeltTM change hands 10 times before the tournament began.
Year 2 saw The BeltTM change hands 7 times before the tournament began.
Year 3 saw The BeltTM change hands 7 times before the tournament began.

This year, we've only had 2 BeltTM changes.

Should Wooster beat Hiram tomorrow, they'll break Brandeis' ('07-'08) record for consecutive days held (43) by an non-national champion. Wooster has held The BeltTM for 41 consecutive days (it will be 42 tomorrow).

Imagine the Stanley Cup never being hoisted by the Canadiens.  Would it still be the World Cup if Brazil had never carried it off the pitch?  And really, can she be Miss Universe if Gamma Vega 2513 hasn't been heard from?

Such has been the problem with the D3 Championship BeltTM since its inception.  It's been held by some worthy hands, no doubt, but there's really only one All-Time Greatest in our game: the Wittenberg Tigers.   And as of tonight, they finally have custody of the BeltTM, and our long national nightmare is finally at an end.

Congratulations to the Tigers; wear it well!

Mr. Ypsi

Now THAT is graciousness from a Woo diehard fan! :o

Big test for the BeltTM on Wednesday. Witt plays host to Wabash. The LGs bested the Tigers earlier in the season.

Also, it will help break up the three way tie for second with Allegheny. Second seed avoids a first round matchup with either Hiram or Ohio Wesleyan - two teams playing under their potential this year, but both potentially dangerous.

If Witt wins, they travel to Oberlin before probably hosting Denison in the NCAC first round, so the BeltTM would be safe until it got to Timken for the NCAC final four.

If Wabash wins, they against Kenyon at home. The Lords could possibly be on the outside looking in, guaranteed, so the nightmare scenario of the BeltTM sitting out the post season is still possible. A remote chance, yes, but possible.

Isn't there also a possibility -- however unlikely -- that Oberlin could defeat Wittenberg in the Yeomen's season finale and then stay home with the BeltTM while the NCAC and D3 tourneys go on without them?

Frankly, I find the idea of Oberlin owning the BeltTM while the good teams are vying for the Walnut and Bronze a much more hilarious scenario than Kenyon doing the same thing. Imagine the comic possibilities: The BeltTM tie-dyed! The BeltTM buried in a solemn ceremony held by the campus PETA chapter because it contains animal hides! The BeltTM chopped up and converted into hackey-sacks or devil sticks ... or used to clean bongs!

The mind reels.

The Belt sitting home and watching the tournament is the scenario we've been hoping for since the beginning.

Yes, but some BeltTM bystander locales are funnier than others.

I'm eager for UMPI to someday possess the BeltTM - the poor thing might never thaw out (or even be found or reported upon)! ::)

Sorry, I haven't been in this room for about a week - didn't know I was on call.  :)

There once was a BeltTM from Willamette?
Whose prong was so long it could jam it.
And it said frame agape
As it wiped off its chape
If my bar had a beer, I could slam it!

I learned a new word.

Chape - tip of scabbard: the metal tip of a scabbard
           - tongue of buckle: the tongue of a buckle

Thanks and +1!   ;)
