If they come back from the Pacific Northwest its looking like the belt will be roaming Wisconsin this year.

Cheese is good so its not all bad.

UWRF lost to Puget Sound yesterday 67-64

PointSpecial,  was my post invisible? ;D

Yep, to me it was!!  It wasn't there when I posted, I swear!

There is one thing that is predictable - the ownership of The BeltTM is unpredictable.

You can't own the BeltTM. You can only hope to contain it.

Puget Sound comes away with a victory in its first BeltTM defense, 67-61.  It was a close one.

They play Willamette Saturday.

smedindy

Checking in on the BeltTM. Puget Sound did dispatch Willamette and after a jaunt on the 17th to New Hope Christian, they travel to ol' San Antone to play Southwestern and Redlands. Odds are the BeltTM is safe in their hands until January, when they play host to Whitman and Whitworth on back to back nights.

Puget Sound's last 2 opponents were drooling over the prospect of claiming a victory over the the current guardian of The BeltTM. Knowing they couldn't possess The BeltTM only made them play harder to win organizational bragging rights. Alas, it was all for naught, as the Loggers would have none of that. First they defeated NAIA Evergreen St. 69-59 but had some anxious moments as Evergreen came back from a 17 point deficit to get within 7 midway through the 2nd half. But the Loggers know what to do with evergreens and they cut them down to size. Ten days later on December 17th, the Deacons from NCCAA New Hope Christian College, had the same aspirations as Evergreen State and hoped to succeed where the Geoducks failed. Despite a multitude of prayers and litanies, the Deacons had no more success than the Geoducks did in their attempt to usurp The BeltTM, as the Loggers felled them 79-57.

On Tuesday a legitimate (but stingless) Southwestern Hornet team will try and earn their 2nd straight win after opening the season with 9 consecutive losses. They finally dropped off the winless list with a 63-52 win over the University of Dallas last night. A victory by the Hornets would go down as one of the greatest, if not "the greatest" upset in The Belt'sTM long and storied history.  I don't see that happening however, and after watching Redlands lose to Chapman last night I don't think the Bulldogs will be taking The BeltTM home to California either. I'm guessing The BeltTM will call the Pacific Northwest home until the NCAA tournament. It's just a question of who will be wearing it to the dance.

The post-season tourney in the NWC is now 4 teams.  A good #5 could keep The BeltTM in the northwest for the summer.

Mr. Ypsi

If so, I certainly hope The BeltTM has been adequately rust-proofed. ;)

I will yield to a more knowing poster on this, but does the NWC really have a capable #5?  I'm pretty confident that The BeltTM will be up for grabs in March (if there are no more opportunities to bring it back to 'real' d3-land before then! ;)).

It almost slipped by but I caught it...........Evergreen Street is nicknamed the Geoducks.

I find it fascinating that a college could choose something that looks like this...
(NSFW)

...as a school mascot.

but, behold the Evergreen State mascot

This is not some cute, cuddly furry creature you want to photograph your kids with.  Ever!

I'm still trying to picture how harmonious it must sound when the student body gives a rousing rendition of the Geoduck's fight song.

The Geoduck Fight Song

words and music by Malcolm Stilson, 1971

Go, Geoducks go,
Through the mud and the sand,
let's go.
Siphon high, squirt it out,
swivel all about,
let it all hang out.

Go, Geoducks go,
Stretch your necks when the tide
is low
Siphon high, squirt it out,
swivel all about,
let it all hang out.

Must be something to that swivelling all about, because these critters can live up to 146 years!! :o

Wow. That makes a banana slug seem appealing. Questions I have:

1. How good were the drugs up at Evergreen State when they decided that was the mascot?
2. Can we go back in time and get some?

I am not advocating illicit (or even licit) drug use. This is strictly for research. For all I know it may have been quarts of Rainier.

Oh my...y'all are talking CCC hoops here!  That's my neck of the woods.  Geoducks are definitely gross and nobody is sure how they decided to make that thing a mascot.  I was about to say that a win over Evergreen St. is a pretty good win, but now I see that they are 1-9 this year.  Wasn't long ago that Evergreen was a very good NAIA II team and the Cascade league is generally pretty brutal (brutal as in super competitive).  My hometown Oregon Tech Hustlin' Owls have been a force out there for a long time...head coach Danny Miles I think is up to about 950 wins which is insane.

Sorry for the Pacific Northwest interlude...back to the belt talk, gents.

That sound you heard was silence and weeping in the Pacific Northwest, and the sound of joyous revelry in Southern California.

Redlands has The BeltTM! Redlands has The BeltTM!

And The BeltTM will be paraded against a D-1 team on Dec. 30 when the Bulldogs face San Diego State.

You know what this means, right?

It means that CalTech could have posession of The BeltTM.

That would be...tremendous!

Well I got the first part right but couldn't have been more wrong about the second part. Redlands beat Puget Sound almost as badly as the Loggers beat Southwestern the night before. Either the SCIAC is underrated or the NWC is not as good as advertised. Redlands' bench players outscored Puget Sound's starters 46-42. Of course when you get outshot 61.4% to 37.5% from the field and you make 5 three pointers to 11 for the other team, you're usually going to lose.

San Antonio wasn't very kind to the Northwest Conference these past 3 days. Their teams went 6-8 in the 14 games they played and when you throw out the 3 wins they had over 1-12 Southwestern they look even worse.

Redlands first defense of The BeltTM will be January 7th against the  Whittier Poets. Since none of the members of the league will play new member Chapman after that date The BeltTM will be residing in the SCIAC for the remainder of the regular season. League favorite Claremont-Mudd-Scripps must be licking their chops over this turn of events. I believe this is the first time The BeltTM has ever resided in the Golden State. (I'm sure "Just Bill" will correct me on this if I'm mistaken) Perhaps it's only fitting since The BeltTM will now be on display in our most populous state in the nation and countless millions will finally get to see this wondrous artifact.

If Redlands defeats Whittier on Jan. 7th and Pomona-Pitzer upsets Redlands on Jan. 11th, then Caltech could be playing for The BeltTM on Jan. 14th.

On the other hand, if Redlands successfully defends The BeltTM in their first two attempts then #21 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps will get the chance to wrest The BeltTM from the BUlldogs' paws on Jan. 14th.

smedindy

How many teams qualify for the SCIAC tourney? Could this be a realistic chance of the BeltTM sunning itself in Cali while the NCAA tourney rolls on?
