12-21   UWSP vs St. Thomas, an excellent mid-season The BeltTM showdown

A little known Mayan prophecy located in Appendix B of the Mayan Calender states that the should the calender encounter an object of greater lustrous glory, all cosmic authority shall be granted to that lustrous object.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are about to enter The BeltTM Age
+1!   (Nothing more can be said.)

... but it will be said, anyway, in spite of that. Because that's how we roll in this room.

That seems silly and pointless...

But I'm holding high my copy of the miniBeltTM that they issue to alums when their team holds the belt, all the same!

You properly attributed the miniBeltTM but forgot to do so for the real thing? The BeltTM might punish that by soon changing hands again ;)

I think he was so happy he created this "the miniBeltTM, that he forgot about that "The BeltTM."

I think you mean I was elated to be holding a miniBeltTM...

You've got to tuck in your shirt, John, so that everybody can see the miniBeltTM.

Even though it has nothing to do with D3 basketball, I thought the following link might be of interest to some of you (1st 7 paragraphs):

Congrats to the author for catching the spirit of this room in one simple quote.

I cannot imagine the ugly assemblage of baubles, spangles and bling that the NFL will cobble together to exceed the magnificence of The BeltTM when NFL fans finally discover the joy of having a traveling trophy, such as The BeltTM.

The magnificence of The BeltTM CANNOT be exceeded. ::)

Bling is just bling - The BeltTM is sui generis.

I was trying to go back and trace the path of The BeltTM from the beginning (starting with the champs of the first D3 tourney in 1975) but obviously the d3hoops pages don't go that far back. Massey seems to have the games going back to the 02-03 season so I started with the 2002 champs Otterbein and went from there. I was shocked by 2 facts about that season (assuming all the games are listed and correct)... first that The BeltTM spent most of the season in the HCAC with my Grizzlies holding it on two occasions and second... that The BeltTM did not spend the summer with Williams who won the NCAA tourney. Transylvania managed to get The BeltTM in their penultimate game and held on to it while not making the conference tourney. I haven't proceeded through the following years yet but my guess is that The BeltTM has likely spent the other summers with the NCAA champs.

I did go through the 03-04 season and if The BeltTM started with Transy, then ItTM spent the entire year in the WIAC finishing with the champs UWSP

He takes it all the way back to the beginning of the series.

We tried doing this a few years ago.  Maybe in your spare time, you can post the Chronology of the travels of The BeltTM.

(I cannot remember where I posted some research that I did on the Women's Belt...   ::)  )
