Is it too early to note that if St. Thomas beats Stevens Point and the regular season ended tomorrow night, the Tommies would miss the MIAC playoffs and the belt™ would not go to the national champs?

This is the dream scenario and can't be hyped too often.  We've been close before.  If only...

Not a lot of height for this year's Tommies.

Comprising a lineup of only MIAC players named Tom, Thomas, Tommy or Tommie, St. Thomas would also be .........not great.

Thomas Schyma  6-2  G  Fr.  (Concordia-Moorhead)
Tommy Anderson 6-4 F  Fr.  (St. Thomas)

Well, better than the WIAC. Scrolling through a boxscore or two of each WIAC team, I didn't find anyone named a variation of Tom.

You can try the all school team... you'd have St Thomas, Thomas More, and Thomas (ME)

Looking through statistical leaders you could have:
Thomas Brown - Green Mountain - 21.4 ppg
Thomas Bonacum - Ramapo - 18.6 ppg
Tom Kromka - St Vincent - 8.4 rpg
Tom Palleschi - Tufts - 3.11 bpg
Caleb Thomasson - Sul Ross St - 17.2 ppg and 8.7 rpg
.

Okay, I actually took the time to read through this entire thread over the last couple of days.

I think this is the saddest sentence I have ever read.

Actually it would be much sadder if said in the Top 25 thread - this one is about somethingTM truly entertaining

The BeltTM thread: 50% more baubles, 50% less paranoia than the Top 25 thread.

Never too early. Always looking for that scenario.

Also, TRADEMARK!

Fingers crossed for The ScenarioTM to finally occur in 2016-17 ...

... and Jordan Thomas of Carthage, who's averaging 11.0 ppg.

This could actually be a pretty nice team. I imagine that there'd be a lot of chaos involved in trying to communicate with each other on the floor, though. "Tom, I'm open!" "Your man, Tom!" "Tommy! Over here!" "Yo! T!"

Well, if we extend it to WIAC fandom we could include you, of course. And you'd fit right in, height-wise, on a team that also has Tom Cruise and Roger "Tommy" Daltrey. ;)

St. Thomas 73  Stevens Point 64      We're gonna need to find more Tom's

2016-17  BeltTm Path
3-19-16  St. Thomas
11-15-16  UW-River Falls
11-19-16  Hope
12-10-16  UW-Stevens Point
12-14-16  St. Thomas

We'll be dimming the lights in here for the next 19 days as the Tommies will next put The BeltTm on the line at Gustavus Adolpus in Jan. 2.  I believe we are now locked in to the MIAC for the remainder of the regular season.

It would have been nice if Hope could hold on to The BeltTM, but that is one against the world.  I primarily blame the "best D3 conference God ever created" - the WIAC had ItTM TWICE and booted ItTM away almost immediately each time. >:(

Now ItTM is probably trapped in the frozen wastes of Minnesota.  Well, MIAC, do your duty to the mighty Spangled OneTM - if ItTM is fated to spend a winter on the frozen tundra, keep U$T out of the MIAC tourney so ItTM can at least spend a summer in "The Land of 10,000 (unfrozen) Lakes".

In 2013 The BeltTm was passed around the MIAC 11 times.

This would be so much cooler if there was an actual belt that got passed around.

That would be pretty much the coolest thing in college sports, actually.

I agree 100%... the kids would love it, as I'm sure many read these pages... someone just needs to take the bull... er, the belt... by the horns....
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

You can get them made for like 150 bucks. I would think certain providers of D3 basketball information might find it worthwhile for the marketing value alone.

I don't know if you could call it a championship belt though. NCAA probably wouldn't like that. Maybe either just "The Belt" or sometihng ironic like "The Belt of Supremacy" (which clearly it's not that).

You couldn't make a belt that would in any capacity be able to duplicate the splendor and magnificence of The BeltTM... it could only at best be a poor facsimile as there is no material on Earth that could replicate that which is The BeltTM

Also. I think the Legal WeaselsTM are having a time figuring out whether someone is talking about a belt or The BeltTM

If you're referring to Pat, you're way off on that. Pat is legendary here for his ambivalent (at best) attitude towards this board in general and The BeltTM as a concept. He's like a teacher who sits at his desk grading papers and pretending not to notice while we shoot spitwads and make armpit noises in the back row of his classroom.
