Dubuque 75  Central 72

Dubuque hangs on for the 3-point win and The BeltTm stays in Dubuque a few more days.  Though their webpage hasn't been updated since before polar vortex death week, on Wednesday the Spartans will host Coe College.

Coe is the Kohawks

The BeltTm could only stand being away from the fine city of Dubuque for 3 days.  Back we go as Loras reclaims The BeltTm.

Loras will travel to Luther on Wednesday

I'll let this paragraph describe how badly The BeltTm wished to stay in Dubuque.

A lay-up by James Kappus gave the Norse an 84-83 lead with four seconds left in the game. The Duhawks moved the ball across half court and called a time-out with two ticks left on the clock. On the in bounds pass, the Norse fouled Josh Ruggles, who walked to the charity stripe and made two free throws, giving the Duhawks an 85-84 lead. Following a Luther attempted length of the court pass that was not touched by any player, Loras took the ball out of bounds under their own basket. The in bounds pass went to Cole Navigato who was fouled. He finished the game with two free throws securing the come-from-behind three point victory.

The fate of The Belt'sTm post-season now rests in the hands of the Duhawks.  A win on Saturday at Central ensures a trip to Ft. Wayne.  Central has been eliminated from the Iow......American Rivers Conference Tournament.  It would be Belt NirvanaTm.  Pella, Iowa is nice, buts its no Dubuque.

What's a Duhawk you ask, well this write-up won't actually answer that question but it is a pretty neat story with a Michigan connection.

The BeltTM clearly has no desire to navigato its way out of the City of Dancing Hams.

If Central wins, I may have to cancel my hotel reservation in Ft. Wayne and head to Pella. I mean, will anyone go to the Final Four if The BeltTM isn't there? Will they even have a Final Four?

I think The Belt missing the tournament is less a "dream scenario" now that we know it's happened a few times before.

To an extent, but that was before we were enlightened to the existence of The BeltTM. It hasn't happened since we started keeping track in real time. Getting to actually celebrate The Dream ScenarioTM as it happens has to mean something.

Exactly. We missed The Dream ScenarioTM in past years because we slept right through it, as it were.

Why hasn't Congress designated January 24 as National BeltTM Day yet? I'd very much like to know.

Congress would not dare presume it has authority to regulate the BeltTM.

Loras 111 Central  80

So close.

The BeltTm moves on with Loras to the first ever American Rivers Conference Tournament which is really just the IIAC Tournament with a longer more confusing name.   Loras as the 2 seed get the bye and will play Thursday night in Dubuque against the winner of #3Wartburg and #6Dubuque who play Tuesday.  Judging by this years BeltTm path Wartburg has no chance.

Also The BeltTm makes that NCAA thingy.
