I feel a strange sense of pride that I've sucked all of you people into debating the rules of this ridiculous competition.  If you can't improve yourself, the next best option is to pull others down to your level.  ;D  Mission accomplished!

I'm heartbroken.  On the ODAC board, Pat called 'the belt thing' 'a little silly'.

Here I thought it was VERY silly! :-[ :'(

What I love about our Hoopsville host friend is that he got all excited about it... and then Pat thoroughly shot it down.... sounds about right. :D

3rd and Forth year provisionals are okay.... I guess. But there is a bit of "does someone beating down ali who is wearing proper gloves with brass knuckles in a parking lot" sorta  similarities to the issue, IMHO.... especially when the provisional school was a scholarship school.

I think I mentioned it earlier, but back in the day, the local high schools in the county did a similar thing with a 'county keg' and it was all in good fun.

Guilford beat Bridgewater (Va.), I the belt goes to Guilford.  Unless somebody has a rule against that.

Just Bill

As reported earlier, Guilford strips the D-III Championship BeltTM back from Bridgewater 74-52.  The BeltTM is getting passed around faster than Paris Hilton's phone number.  Guilford earns the BeltTM for the second time this year.

Since Just Bill has glued all of the baubles and geegaws on the BeltTM, it seems like an exceptionaly "worldly" prize to be contested by teams of Quakers and Mennonites.  :)

Maybe extra incentive to get rid of it?   ???   :D

It was worth it just to have the laugh about Lakeland pilfering the Belt from the hands of the UWSP Goliaths ... or to watch the Marquess of Ypsilanti smack his velvet gloves across the chops of the Transylvania Vampires by unilaterally declaring Transy to be ineligible to hold the Belt back when they were a provisional.

Pat didn't like the Hoopsville Hex, either. He's got a blind spot when it comes to silly board fodder. ;)

The Quakers have reached consensus in meeting that Belt honor is not as odious as hat honor. As for the Mennonites, they've decided that if Just Bill constructs a Belt for D3 women's basketball as well, and one of the Mennonite schools should happen to possess it, they will alter it into a head covering. ;)

Guilford retains the D-III Championship BeltTM by winning the Holy War 84-75 over Eastern Mennoninte.  (Where exactly is Western Mennonite?)

Next Championship BeltTM match:   Washington & Lee at Guilford, Wednesday.

I haven't gotten a chance to listen to this weeks show yet (though I did listen to about 4 hrs of hoopsville while cleaning my house yesterday) but I'm just going to guess you mentioned it despite Pat's protestations... And that also sounds about right. :D :P ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Pat the one who took the pictures of the Hoopsville curse shirt that I made Dave?

Pat may have a blind spot when it comes to silly board fodder, but he's also media-savvy enough to know a good promotional photo op when he sees one.
