2. By the head coach dramatically dropping the BeltTM into a garbage can, therefore setting up a "Royal Rumble" where 20 teams simultaneously attempt to score baskets while preventing the other opponents from climbing a ladder where the BeltTM is suspended high overhead.

Question about the "Royal Rumble"?    Would this event be held in a steel cage court....and would it be overmarketed and hyped as a "death match"? ;D :D ;)

Last night, we had another title change.

Carnegie Mellon came into the Coles Center in New York City last night, and knocked out the Violets by a 68-60 score to capture the Just Bill's B*lt.

The Tartans become the 5th UAA team to take possession of the b*lt this season (the other holders were Brandeis, Rochester, Emory, and NYU) , but as a Brandeis fan, I thank the Tartans for capturing the b*lt last night, because that means that Brandeis can recapture the b*lt with a victory tomorrow morning.  The b*lt made the trip from New York to Boston this morning, and arrangements are being made at the virtual UAA headquarters in Rochester for a Sunday night trip for the Brandeis replica b*lt to be transported back to Boston should Brandeis win tomorrow.

Brandeis will challenge for the b*lt at 11 AM Eastern tomorrow.  (Yes, the tip is one hour earlier than normal due to the early return flight for CMU back to Pittsburgh Sunday evening.)

PS-- I know that Just Bill and the rest of you vetoed the modest proposal from the UAA, so the original rules on possession of the b*lt at the end of the season still stand, but I believe that, in the end, the holder of the b*lt at the end of UAA play on March 1 will qualify for the NCAAs.

The belt has once again changed hands!

Brandeis has just defeated Carnegie Mellon by a score of 84-81 to capture the Just Bill's b*lt for the second time!

Brandeis will defend the belt this upcoming Friday at Wash U.

I think the court should be surrounded by chicken wire like they used to have for basketball about 90-100 years ago.

After all, that is why they called them "cagers"!  ;)

Wow. That means that if the Judges can stave off the Bears in St. Louis on Friday, I could actually have a chance to see the BeltTM on Sunday in Chicago's Ratner Center.

My bellybutton will be puckering and unpuckering all week in anticipation.

Greg--

I think that there is a very good chance that the Just Bill's B*lt may be visiting Chicago as well as St. Louis before the end of the season.  That would mean that the b*lt has visited all 8 cities of the UAA.

A successful Brandeis title defense on Friday will send the b*lt to Chicago for a Sunday title defense, but a Wash U sweep this weekend will also send the b*lt on to Chicago on March 1 as well.

If NYU does become a 2 time Just Bill's champion on Sunday, then that would prevent a visit by the b*lt to Chicago.

On another note, the Brandeis replica b*lt returned back to the virtual Brandeis campus on Monday, with the original once again being stored per order of Just Bill's conditions at a lab in the virtual Boston area.  Both b*lts will be flown to St. Louis on Thursday, with Coach Meehan bringing the original b*lt into the virtual Wash U Field House, with Coach Tabb bringing the replica b*lt in to the same gym.  Don't worry, the original b*lt was kept safe in good hands during the switches.

Oh dear God. We have actual basketball players motivating themselves by playing for a fictional award.  This may have finally gone too far.

He even added in the Trademark logo!  (P.S. Sean, you owe me 75 cents for each use of that phrase. Check or PayPal is fine.)

For a refresher, here is the path the BeltTM has taken this season:

Start of season to 12/8/07 - Amherst
12/8/07 to 1/20/08 - Brandeis
1/20/08 to 1/25/08 - Rochester
1/25/08 to 2/1/08 - Emory
2/1/08 to 2/15/08 - NYU
2/15/08 to 2/17/08 - Carnegie Mellon
2/17/08 to Present - Brandeis

Being in the UAA has done wonders for the BeltTM's frequent flier account. At this rate, the BeltTM may be vacationing in Tahiti during the offseason.

On the other hand, I can imagine Pat realizing that the B*lt is a creation of the D3fan base in our enthusiasm for our brand of hoops, and it started on this web site.

It prompts the casual question, "Who has the B*lt this week?"  The B*lt has adorned the Champions of our Division!   :)

What is our culture?  It is Salem VA, the Top 25, Hoopsville, the Coaches' Corner, the message boards, the Posters' Poll, etc.

What if the team that has possession of the BeltTM isn't in the Final Four? Will we simply have to send Allen's replica BeltTM to Salem for display purposes, much like the Baseball Hall of Fame sends out memorabilia to distant venues as a part of its traveling exhibitions, with the understanding that it has to be returned to the rightful owner after Final Four weekend?
