If Wash U wins on friday, are we going to argue how to pronounce their name too? Wash You or Wash YOOOOOOOOO

Gregory Sager

Actually, in some parts of the country the word wash is pronounced "warsh".

I kid you not.

Yep.  My grandpa (in central IL) has never washed his hands, or his car, or his clothes... but they've been warshed quite often!

Actually most of the locals in Washington, NJ in Warren County in Northwest Jersey pronounce it Warshinton, and Port Murray is pronounced Port Mary.  I catch myself saying Warshington quite often, probably because the grammer gestapo, AKA grandma is no longer around to constantly correct everyones grammer.

I really wish there was a d3 team in Newark, DE and Newark, NJ as the two names are pronounced very differently. If the Belt went back and forth between these two hypothetical schools people would have nightmares...or at least headaches

My old man pronounces it "warsh", and I've never figured that out. He's a born-and-bred Buffalonian, and I've never heard anyone else from Buffalo (including his father) pronounce wash as "warsh".

I don't know how they pronounce it in Joisey or the Diamond State, but the original Newark in Nottinghamshire, England is pronounced "Nurk".

Well pronounce it however you like, but I pronounce them Knocked Out!  Washington University takes the D-III Championship BeltTM in an overtime split decision. (I heard one judge had it a draw on his card.)

Warsh U. becomes the seventh (out of 8 ) UAA team to hold the leather and baubles this season.  (Wow, Case Western must feel REALLY left out).

Start of season to 12/8/07 - Amherst
12/8/07 to 1/20/08 - Brandeis
1/20/08 to 1/25/08 - Rochester
1/25/08 to 2/1/08 - Emory
2/1/08 to 2/15/08 - NYU
2/15/08 to 2/17/08 - Carnegie Mellon
2/17/08 to 2/24/08 - Brandeis
2/24/08 to 3/7/08 - Chicago
3/7/08 to 3/8/08 - UW-Stevens Point
3/8/08 to 3/14/08 - Buena Vista
3/14/08 to present - Washington U.

And in the Red Corner, hailing from the Gateway City in the Show Me State, defending the D-III Championship BeltTM the Big Bad Bears of....Washington University!

Let's get it on!

Bill, you ought to fly out to Colorado Springs and have the honor of throwing out the first metal folding chair.

I'm worried that if North Park takes the BeltTM we'll never get it back from you, Greg.  We'll have a Charlton Heston "out of my cold, dead hands" situation.

Silly Sager.  The BeltTM goes around your waist, not your neck!

Ah, the visual imagery is hilarious...

I looked for a pic of Chuck Heston dangling in the net when he said those pivotal "damned, dirty ape" words, but there wasn't one anywhere online. Which surprises me, what with it being such a seminal scene in the history of American cinema and all. ::)
