Great Day to be a Royal

Quote from: saratoga on January 24, 2025, 01:19:30 PMYep...should be a real clinic.
Parents, do not take your aspiring basketball players to this game.
The bad habits they'll pick up will be irreversible.

I'm going to be that guy here, but don't be that way. Those kids are out there giving it their best. Not easy going to practice every day, hitting gym, and losing game in and game out. Especially for a program that is traditionally a solid team.

Also, as a defender of d3, that's exactly the sentiment that falls on d3. "anyone can play" attitude.

Has never been about the kids & their effort.
Has everything to do with their lack of development under this head coach.
Has everything to do with not having a set lineup & substitution pattern after 1/2 the season (again).
Has everything to do with knowing the kids that bailed him out last year after defections & injuries never see the court.
Has everything to do with seeing him out-coached game after game, year after year.
Has everything to do with never improving his perimeter defense as noted by CUA having a field day shooting.
Has everything to do with years of non-competitive games vs. good teams.
Has everything to do with generally being ousted after one game in those years his kids do get him to the NCAA's.
This list is not inclusive.
Danzig's had a nice run...the university has put his 3 children through college & grad school.
However, like all coaches, there is a shelf life where recruiting gets a little tougher, teams get better and the other coaches get a little younger & smarter.
They (newer coaches) have more energy, they are really into recruiting, analytics, and development.
Scranton is at that stage now where men's basketball is stale.
This isn't on the kids that play & give all they have every game & every frustrating practice...it's on the staff.
Time to thank Danzig for his efforts but it's also time to turn the page & look to the future.
Is there someone out there that can recruit a little harder & smarter, coach better, prepare better, have more energy & market the team & program better.
I think there is.
This is not an indictment on Danzig the person, just that the shelf life of a once promising new coach has come & gone after 24 years.

Did he refuse to make the trip to Huntingdon?  :o Justifiable, if that were the case.

Not sure why D3 voters are giving more votes to Catholic at this point over Drew.
They have the same record & in their first matchup, Drew won.

Pat Coleman

True, but it's also 0.14% of the votes so it's hardly more than a rounding error.

Hey dont look now Carl has this team in 7th place 4-7 at 9-9 after that embarrasing performance tonight.

NEPAFAN

Drew has 21 kids on their roster, Scranton had to bring out more chairs for them all.  Should have just had them sit in the student section.

I'm kind of surprised the landmark doesn't limit the traveling roster.  I lot of conferences do.

Personally, I don't see any harm.
The bus they rode in on has 52 seats.
If Drew is ok funding the extra uniforms & meal money, why should the conference care?
I realize the NCAA has a limit of 18 per team for travel but Drew will sort that out at the appropriate time.
And let's not forget... Danzig's game plan allowed all of those 21 kids to see some college action.  ;)
A fun ride back to Madison!

NEPAFAN

Thanks Saratoga,

I was going to note that as well, every Drew kid played.

What is the cap in the Tournament, 15?
