I see IWU (previously sitting at 2) lost...assume Scranton moves up, but maybe Bowdoin moves to 2?

Tim the Enchanter

Given that Scranton was 1 point behind IWU, Bowdoin was 46 behind Scranton, and Scranton had a road win against a ranked opponent, I couldn't imagine the voters having Bowdoin leapfrog Scranton...

Thanks for the responses on the tie-breakers.

Per Scranton website...
Latest NPI ratings;
1.NYU
2.Bowdoin
3.Scranton
4.IWU

D3 ratings are nice, just wish the NPI had us ahead of Bowdoin.
One common opponent (Colby) and we handled them a bit easier than Bowdoin did.

Bowdoin has the better opponent strength.

Through Current Games:

Top 15 Wins, AVG Opp NPI Rank
Bowdoin: 77.93 (#15 was Skidmore, #163)
Scranton: 110.20 (#15 was Goucher, #232)

Total QWB
Bowdoin: 18.43
Scranton: 20.56

If both teams remain undefeated through regular season:

Top 15 Wins, AVG Opp NPI Rank
Bowdoin: 69.07 (#15 would be Conn College #160)
Scranton: 90.73 (#15 would be New Jersey City #229)

Total QWB
Bowdoin: 21.20
Scranton: 23.98

Here's what the old resumes might look like:
Bowdoin: (1.000, 0.586, 6-0)
Scranton: (1.000, 0.564, 6-0)

scottiedawg

I'd rather be the overall #2 seed as well.   Overall #3 seems fairly likely to get Smith in their quadrant.  Overall #2 might get someone like Whitman or Gustavus Adolphus.

Lots and lots and lots of huge games left to go that can blow up all of the above!

saratoga

Absolutely.
Still plenty of time for the "best laid plans of mice & men to go astray".

scottiedawg

Yup, MOST often, Bowdoin, Scranton, IWU, Gustavus, Baldwin Wallace, Whitman each don't lose again. (Oshkosh has such a brutal schedule their fairly likely to lose at least once more, but even then the strong SOS leading to strong Game NPIs keeps them very high)

But pretty sure there's at least one loss coming for ONE of them....we just have no idea which one.

So Scranton played 21 games and Goucher is #15.Do you take the 15 best teams and throw the others out?

No, for every win after 15, you throw out the game opponent that is lowest ranked by NPI. So if they defeat Moravian on Wednesday, for example, they'll throw out either that game or the Goucher game, depending on which had the lower NPI. If they then defeat Susque on Saturday, they'll throw out the Goucher or Moravian game because they'll be lower than Susque's NPI.

Augie2020

Okay TY Ronk!!!Got it.So this is the new system the Committee will use?

saratoga

Yes.
As its been stated, Regional rankings & Top 25's are mere eye candy...it's the NPI that counts.

Great Day to be a Royal

Don't forget about a win over a very good Bethel team.

scottiedawg

They're both very good teams.

Scranton has the better high end wins; in fact if both teams finish the regular season undefeated, Scranton should have 5 wins better than Bowdoin's best win.

BUT, Bowdoin will have 14 wins better than Scranton's 9th best, which is where Bowdoin's entire body of work inches ahead.

Augie2020

So Bowdoin plays a 24 game schedule Scranton plays a 25 game schedule. Will that interfere with say those 15 games because your taking 9 away from Bowdoin taking 10 from everyone else that plays 25?
