Maybe it's time for a younger coach; holding a job since the 1697-98 season is impressive, but he may be slipping behind the times just a bit. :)

I hope I don't have my official Hope Fan badge suspended, this our 20th NCAA Tournament appearance. :-[

Recruiting in the 1700's was tough David, and the bus rides were even more difficult.

Actually, David, I think you forgot the three seasons Hope didn't have a team because of the Civil War, the three seasons of the Revolutionary War, and the season of 1813-14 was canceled but since word didn't reach the Northwest Territory in time, it was played anyway.

What's most amazing it that Holland didn't even exist until 1847.  Yet GVW had already been coaching there for over a century and a half! :o ::) ;)

If that ain't Hall of Fame credentials, I don't know what is.

Deep within the archives of VanWylen Library, way in the back in a dark corner is a small box.  Inside it contains the written history of Hope's first true basketball rival .......the Singapore Saints.   The rivalry was truely heated, but it had to be disbanded one day because of an ugly on court incident involving a butter churn and washboard.  Dutchmen fans took revenge by burning the village of  Singapore and burrying it under mountains of sand.

Here's the more widely publicly accepted version of what happened to Singapore.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore,_Michigan

....but we know what really happened. We don't speak of it often.

Hope moved on and found a new rival with the Graafschaap Tulpen Eters, but the students grew tired of trying to find creative ways of rhyming rythmicly with Graafschaap and the rivalry was disbanded by popular request.

Notes
-This is UNE's first ever appearance in the NCAA D3 Tournament.
- At one point in this season, UNE had a 19 game winning streak. It was snapped in an away loss to Gordon College.
-UNE made an appearance in the Northeast Regional NCAA ranking during that streak.
-UNE will use their deep bench a lot. They use the full-court press quite frequently and have 12.6 steals per game. They allow a better FG percentage than they boast, but because they have more possessions by virtue of forcing turnovers, they win in their transition game.
"C.J.: They sent me two turkeys. The most photo-friendly of the two gets a Presidential pardon and a full life at a children's zoo. The runner-up gets eaten.

scout, someone from UNE should contact ESPN.  They like stories like this, esp. with the angle of Texas players going to college in Biddeford with lobster traps floating next to campus.  ESPN can cover the UNE story after they get done interviewing MIT.   ;)
