Yeah, it makes you wonder what Raptormania could do for his selected team! ;)

You know, they already lost, so I think it's okay if we stop dumping on them now.   :P

What LEC did this year is historic, and they have a right to celebrate.  Last year there was a lot of chest-thumping coming out of Painesville, but when LEC ran into their first tough opponent (Witt in the NCAAs) they got wiped out.  This year in the NCAAs they took the OAC co-champions right down to the last shot and probably should have beaten them.  That's a big improvement right there, and one that those of us who think we know everything should respect.  Don't forget that LEC plays an 18-game schedule in the woeful AMCC, so there's not too much they can do about their schedule; playing Rochester and Findlay is a step in the right direction.  Let's see if the Storm can improve further next season.

I say congratulations to coach Hunt and the Storm! :)

Incidentally... leave Lake Erie alone... I listened to most of the JCU-Lake Erie broadcast... they were up by 10 almost all that game... this is not a sucky team, they just let one go in the closing seconds.

How cool is it that a team from a school that has an enrollment of 564 students took it toe to toe with an OAC team?

I'm glad to see this thread come back!  I hope we get a lot of participation, as I think many of us enjoyed reading the team capsules from last season.

Old School you are the man, bringing back two threads I started last year and totally forgot about.

I hope we can get some good participation from a good portion of the teams again this year.

Lawrence University

Key Wins: # 20 UW-Oshkosh 81-78,
Key Losses: @#4 UW-Stevens Point 75-56
(rankings at time of game)

Record: 22-2, regular season and MWC playoff champs (4th in 5 years).

Key Players:
- Ryan Kroeger, 6'2 junior guard.  Avg 17.3ppg, shoots 45% from beyond the arc, 86& from free-throw stripe.  Deadly accurate, major clutch player
-Andy Hurley: 6'7 senior forward. Avg 12.4 ppg, 8.5 rpg.  Senior leader has exceled in the low block late in the season.
-Doug Kadison 6'2 junior guard.  Starting point in LU's 3 guard offense.   Averages 3.7 apg.

Lawrence has 6 players averaging 8 or more ppg this season.  Will regularly go 10 deep.  Runs 3 guard offense, team shooting over 40% from beyond the arc.

Coach Joel (JoJo) DePagter :  First season as head coach of Lawrence after departure of John Tharp.  Was an assistant on the last four LU NCAA Tournament teams inculding run to Elite Eight in 2004.  Was starting guard and MWC Player of the Year on LU's Tournament team in 1997. Is seventh on LU's career scoring list. Was named interim coach in spring of 2007, given full-time job in December 2007. First MWC coach to win the Conference championship since 1957.

The Vikings are in a tough bracket. They have to take on a suprise entrant to the tournament in Wheaton in the first round, and should they get past  the Thunder look to have to take on WIAC regular and playoff champion UW-Whitewater on thier home court.  The Vikings will need a good shooting performance out of Kroeger and Kadison and will need Hurley and Chris Page to control the boards.  If LU can shoot well they will have a chancde to advance to the sweet 16, but a bad shooting night will doom this squad.  Their defense is strong, but will have a tough time stopping probable CCIW player of the year Most Outstanding Player Kent Raymond.  This team could be one and done, but could suprise and content for a sectional berth.

[Edited by GS to reflect the fact that Kent Raymond has already been selected as the CCIW's Most Outstanding Player for 2007-08.]

Farmingdale is an aggressive team and they will press on Defense.  I saw them early in the season against NJCU.  Here is what I wrote after that game.

Quote from: Knightstalker on November 29, 2007, 10:31:42 AM
Caught the NJCU Farmingdale game last night.  The Knights looked decent and should improve.  A couple of freshmen, Derrick Miller and Tom McDermott are getting a lot of playing time and both look pretty good.  Miller has a nice shot and McDermott looks to be a good rebounder and defender.  Dana John broke the schools 3 point record last night and should go over 1000 points for his career before the semester ends.

Farmingdale has a pretty good team it appears.  Santana is the real deal, he does shoot his free throws from the middle of the circle.  Lipka and Shannon are both good players and all three are good shooters.  They have good depth and as the season progresses should play some good defense.  They used the press but they need to improve it if they expect to be effective later in the season.  I think the Rams should contend for the Skyline title.  They have done a very good job of building a competitive program and are getting players from good HS programs.
