1 pitch from the Rochester reliever and the game is over.  Brutal.

Three games, three walkoff wins, and the Bombers are the LL champs!

Rochester rallies from a 5-1 deficit to take a 6-5 lead into the bottom of the 9th. There, the Bombers load the bases on a HBP, single, and with two outs, a 3-2 walk. With the bases now loaded, Ethan Rothstein lines a first pitch single, scoring two runners and sending the Bombers to the NCAAs.

The Yellowjackets showed a ton of fight all weekend, but just came up short against Ithaca. Really, three of the four teams had a great shot at the title, but ultimately, Ithaca executed and made just enough plays. Twice, they found themselves trailing in the 9th, and they scraped together runs each time.

Congratulations to all the teams on a great tournament.

Disappointed that the writeup on the Case Western Reserve regional doesn't make mention of Ithaca splitting  a pair of games with them earlier in the year.

Intriguing addition to the Bard roster this year. Elise Berger, pitcher from the U.S. Women's National Baseball Team:

Along similar lines, Vassar's new pitching coach is also a woman with Liberty League and Team USA pedigree:

In 2008, Vassar had Lilly Jacobson - another Team USA player - on the roster, but she didn't get into a game according to the stats from that year.

Is Jim Dixon still involved with d3baseball?  Hasn't been active on here since 2022.

Ralph Turner

Jim is the Board Moderator.

Ralph Turner

He is also Editor/ Big Kahuna of D3baseball.

He's board moderator but hasn't logged onto the site in 3 years? How does that work?  It's not a big deal or anything it's just that I enjoyed his commentary and haven't seen anything from him in quite a while.

Bard first year pitcher Elise Berger threw 5 scoreless relief innings to earn the win for the Raptors in game 1 of a doubleheader against MCLA in Florida this afternoon.

Is she the first woman in D3 baseball history to earn a W? Any NCAA level? I found when researching an Ila Borders who beat a SCIAC team in 1995, but she was pitching for an NAIA school at the time.

Has the LL always had a mercy rule for baseball or is that new? Maybe I never noticed because I can never remember when games are 7 vs. 9 innings anyway, but I noticed it today when IC walked off vs. St. Lawrence in the 7th on a wild pitch that made it 18-8

I believe it was instituted for the 2024 season.

LL series are 9-7-9 so the second game of the SLU at IC doubleheader today is scheduled for 7 innings.

Makes sense. I think there comes a point where you need it just to save arms.

The IC-St. Lawrence game seems like what it was built for. Saints relievers just could not get the ball over the plate. In just 2 1/3 innings they issued 10 walks and threw 7 wild pitches. Feels like running through a bullpen just to try to scrounge up six more outs benefits no one.
