Clearly, you are an idiot. SOS numbers change every week and have a HUGE bearing on the committee's view each week. I have been saying for two weeks that IWU should be out of the rankings , but their SOS was keeping them in. They are now out of the CCIW tourney, so don't look for them to get a bid.

My predictions for the Central Regional hosted in Rock Island:

1. Carthage
2. Wash U
3. - Team shipped from the South Region
4. Beloit
5. Wartburg
6. Fontbonne

Had a hard time placing Wartburg and Beloit. I think Wartburg is better but Beloit may possibly have better numbers. Just a guess. Also, I think Webster deserves a bid but their poor start hurts them especially playing in a weaker central region conference.

I see Carthage running away with this regional with pitching depth alone. Plus they always play well at Augustana's field.

I really dont think UWASH is a #2 seed. My hunch is that they bring Millsaps or St. Olaf into the regional be a number 2 seed. But St. Olaf may end up a number #1 seed if they complete the sweep of St. Thomas today. SO my hunch is Millsaps

Anyone want to take a chance at predicting how the Central Regional will end up? Will this end up just being a 2 team race between Carthage and Millsapps?

Do not sleep on #3 Whitewater, They are dangerous team. If there was ONE team from the Midwest I did not want to see it was Whitewater.

Something to pass the time until tomorrow's first pitch.
Carthage's all-time records versus opponents in the Central Regional:

Fontbonne 4-0
The Red Men eliminated the Griffins, 17-3, from the 1998 NCAA Division III Central Regional in Kenosha, Wis.  The second meeting, on March 27, 1999, at the Fontbonne College Tournament,  resulted in an 11-1 Carthage win.  Carthage defeated the Griffins, 13-8, on March 26, 2000, also at the Fontbonne Tournament.  The Red Men defeated the Griffins, 13-2, on May 16, 2003 in a loser's bracket game  of the NCAA Division III Central Regional Baseball Championship in Clinton, Miss.

Millsaps 2-4
Carthage lost both ends of a 1986 twinbill to the Majors in Jackson, Miss., won a 1987 game, and split a pair of games in 1988.  Millsaps defeated Carthage, 4-2, on May 15, 2003 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Central Region Baseball Championship in Clinton, Miss.

Wisconsin-Whitewater 18-22-1
The Red Men's series with the Warhawks began in 1965 after Carthage moved north from Illinois to Wisconsin.  The series ended after the 1996 season.  Wisconsin-Whitewater defeated Carthage, 24-3, on May 15, 2008 in a second-round game at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championship at Oshkosh North High School in Oshkosh, Wis. The two teams split a pair of games in Florida this spring.

Wartburg 4-1
Carthage nipped Wartburg, 3-2, on May 15, 1997, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Central Regional Championship in Carroll, Iowa.  The Red Men also defeated the Knights, 14-4, on May 20, 1999, in the second round of the NCAA Division III Central Regional Championship in Geneva, Ill.  Wartburg defeated Carthage, 9-5, on May 20, 2000, in the championship round of the NCAA Division III Central Regional Championship in Bloomington, Ill.  Carthage won a 3-2 decision over the Knights in the first round of the 2002 NCAA Division III Central Region Championship in Monmouth, Ill.  The Red Men defeated Wartburg again on May 18, 2003, winning a 5-2 game in the loser's bracket of the NCAA Division III Central Regional Baseball Championship in Clinton, Miss.

Washington University (Mo.) 2-0
The Red Men defeated the Bears, 8-3, on March 29, 1998, in the Washington University Tournament in St. Louis, Mo.  Carthage also won 5-4 decision on May 16, 2007 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Central Region Championship in Bloomington, Ill.

yikes, the Griffins better bring their A game to play Carthage first round, not that they didnt plan on it. Should be a fun region to watch, AGAIN!

Any predictions for 2010?

I am working on getting information (from coaches and SIDs) and crunching numbers as we speak. Look for my PRE-pre-season rankings in the next few weeks.

Still waiting on those predictions BigPoppa  ;) haha.  I'm getting excited for the season already!

Gramps

Big Poppa, Gramps here.  Will you be in Florida for Spring training?  Just looked over our schedule and Heidelberg will meet Carthage at Noon on March 6th. Carthage sounds like they will be awesome this coming season. Just hope that we can match up with one of the elite programs of D3.

I will be in Florida, but not until the end of March with my high school team. I am still teaching in early March as our spring break is later this year.

Carthage vs Heidelberg should be a great early-season matchup for both programs.
