Yesterday was not a good day for Big Poppa or the Turtle.   The details are just to horrible to discuss.

You can say that again... I was shocked when I saw that Carthage not only lost to Benedictine, but was blown out. My statement about Carthage needing to find a #3 or #4 starter makes sense now, doesn't it? #1 and #2 match up with just about anyone in the nation, but there is a HUGE drop off after that. I saw that first hand on Sunday while watching the Redmen try to piece together enough innings to hold off St. John's in game #2 (#3 starter)after beating them by two touchdowns in game #1 (#2 starter).
Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.

Look at it this way.  It's not like you lost to Wisconsin Lutheran or anything.  Oh wait, Beloit did that for you.

My rankings this week. It is not looking good for the Central region as I only have Wheaton (IL) in the Top 25. If teams can get on a roll in conference play in the next 2-3 weeks, I can easily see a few more breaking into the rankings.

1 St. Thomas 14-1
2 Chapman 20-4
3 Heidelberg 17-3
4 Wooster 15-3
5 Pomona-Pitzer 23-5
6 Marietta 17-4
7 Salisbury 18-4
8 Mississippi College 24-4
9 UW-Whitewater 12-1
10 Johns Hopkins 18-3
11 Trinity (Conn.) 10-3
12 Kean 15-6
13 Eastern Connecticut 12-4
14 Shenandoah 23-6
15 Redlands 24-3
16 Birmingham-Southern 24-4
17 Plattsburgh State 17-1
18 St. Scholastica 15-3
19 Cortland State 15-6
20 Wheaton (Ill.) 15-4
21 Rose-Hulman 15-6
22 UW-Stevens Point 9-4
23 RPI 11-5
24 Pacific Lutheran 19-6
25 Trinity (Texas) 23-7

BigPoppa, I guess you think the four straight losses for augie will hurt them quite a bit? I seem to think they will and judging by your rankings it seems you feel the same way.

Augustana has a history of this (a great start and then a stumble that lingers all season). They have had great teams in the last ten years, but there is a reason that only Carthage and IWU have won CCIW titles in that timespan. We will find out this week what Carthage is made of as they have five CCIW games this week  Wheaton twice Tuesday and IWU for a three-game series this weekend (all in Kenosha). Wheaton is off to a nice start as I expected so a big day for them tomorrow could really solidify their place in the region.

Looking at the list (which is pretty much useless other than helping to pass the time) one can draw many conclusions, none of which I am able to do ???

Big Poppa, curious as to where you see other Central Region teams stacking up in the national rankings. Do you see teams such as Carthage, Beloit, Augustana as being kind of on the cusp or close to that top 25 at all?

OshDude

Didn't look all that hard, but I think Webster is 9-1. IWU is 6-3.

IWU vs:
Depauw 0-2
Benedictine 1-2
WashU 1-0
Concordia (IL) 0-1
Franklin 1-0
Millikin 3-0

If I have the in-region games right, that leaves IWU at 6-5. You are correct on Webster, they are 9-1... my mistake.

I think Carthage will stay in the D3Baseball Top 25, but I did not vote for them. They are giving up way too many runs right now. I think Augustana will be sitting somewhere around #30-35 and Beloit about #40.

BigPoppa, you sure Depauw is an in-region game?

I haven't checked the official mileage, but pretty certain it is in-region by the 200-mile rule.
