My Predicted Regional Rankings:

1. North Central
2. Webster
3. Carthage
4. WashU
5. Coe
6. Spalding
7. Wartburg
8. St. Norbert
9. North Park
10. Chicago

Thoughts?

Coe won't be ahead of Wartburg after having lost all three games to them in the last week.

My bad... I meant to flip Coe and Wartburg.

May 3rd...Still no Spalding???  How is Wartburg #2?  Why don't the records reflect "In-Region" games?

Spalding's schedule is ranked 302 out of 389, there should be absolutely no gripe about them not being ranked, regardless of what their record is.

Wartburg's schedule is 38th, enough said.

This same discussion happens every single year and the answer will always be the same- play a tougher schedule and you have a better chance if you do not win your conference or conference tournament.  Play a crap schedule and you are setting yourself up for disappointment if you do not win the automatic bid.

BigPoppa

Does Spalding make a move if they beat Webster this weekend?  They DO have a weak schedule, but most of that is due to the SLIAC mostly being very week. I also know they have trouble getting teams to come play them due to their distance from most of the Central Region teams.

They simply need to be willing to travel to play quality opponents.

Because the two columns are Overall Record and Record vs. D-III. "In-Region" doesn't really matter anymore since all games vs. D-III opponents are now weighted equally.

The first and still most accurate description of the D3 Championship BeltTM thread.

My non-scientific prediction:

#1  NCC       25-12   .676   .5964 (7)           .5362   0.576
#2  Webster      33-7           .825   .5297 (129)   .5296   0.530   --- lower strength of schedule than Wart, but wins make up for it.
#3  Wartburg    24-11   .686   .5601 (55)           .5206   0.547
#4  Wash U       21-14   .600   .5754 (23)           .5404   0.564
#5  Carthage     28-9           .757   .5260 (141)   .5312   0.528
#6  Dubuque     21-15   .583   .5250 (146)   .5093   0.520

Wash U could have an argument for 3rd based on all of the numbers aside from overall winning %.

From the Wash-U perspective, I'm hoping that the Bears can snag one of the last two or three bids.  If Webster wins the SLIAC Tournament, Wash-U would seem to be either the 2nd or 3rd-ranked Pool C hopeful in the region, depending on where Carthage is placed in the final regional rankings.  Good SOS, but a 21-14 overall record may be too pale in comparison to the other hopefuls clamoring to get to the table.

Thoughts?

I believe that Carthage played their way out of the NCAA's.

WashUStL needs Wartburg to hold. If that is the case, then I think that the Bears are the first team on the board for Pool B/C from the Central Region in the (undisclosed) Final Regional Rankings.

At 21-14, Wash U's winning % of .600 is indeed pale. Is this the record of a team that deserves a shot at a national championship? If a Wash U kid scored 60% on any kind of exercise/exam he'd be more likely to get kicked out of school than to receive any type of reward. I'm thinking the door won't open.

While they fortunately got hot by the conference tourney to win a pool A bid, the 2010 national champion had a much worse record than .600!
