I agree with you that Lewis is probably the better pitcher.  I live in Cedar Rapids and have seen both of them pitch on multiple occassions.  My main point was to show how decieving a win-loss record can be.  I know numbers are just numebrs, but numbers get you AA status.  Sure, there will always be that pitcher that doesn't have great stats but has great potential and gets drafted but that doesn't mean jsut because you get drafted, that you should be an AA.

Macalester's James Murrey is a great example of this. He was 9-4 on a terrible team and did nothing but shut down opponents all season and his own hitters could not score runs for him. He may have actually been better than d3 pitcher of the year, Matt Schuld.

Murrey was head and shoulders above any other pitcher that Hopkins faced this year.

I really am surprised they didn't move either Stevens Point or St Thomas down to this regional.  I did guess that Rose Hulman would be placed here So I was half right.

I see a lot of posting about Webster, but I still am not sold on them at this point.  Could easily loose to Ripon in the first game.   Agree with Big Poppa on Rose Hulman. They could be a force.  Have played and beat some pretty solid teams this year, but did slump toward the end of the regular season.

I am going to pick Illinois Wesleyan.  Don't as me why.  Just have a feeling.
How much longer does that feeling hold out?   :)

Still Feeling Good.  Mr. Ypsi is probably passed out somewhere though.
There's only two things I can't stand in this world. Those who are intolerant of other people's cultures... and the Dutch.

Congratulations to Ill Wesleyan.  The central region should be proud.  That was one hell of a run.

After we won the title (BIG TIME!), Mr. Ypsi is working on it! ;D

For anyone who hadn't heard, the Titans also won the walnut-and-bronze in women's track on Saturday.  Two national titles in three days - it is a GREAT time to be a Titan! :D

IWU just dominated.. they have been playing great ball and deserve that walnut and bronze! Anyone know how many times the CCIW has taken home a nation championship in baseball? Just curious

IWU was the first CCIW team to win it in baseball.

...and the first central region team to win it as well!

Based on the Collegiate Baseball Rankings, the Preseason Central Region Rankings would be

1. Illinois Wesleyan
2. Buena Vista
3. Webster
4. North Central
5. Ripon
6. North Park

Not really sure if I would agree with this

I am not 100% in agreement either. I am still working on my preseason regional ranking.

WhY is Carthage not in the top 6 in the region. They finished 3rd in CCIW(ahead of National Champ IWU) and 2nd in the CCIW tournament with 29 wins for 2010 went 3-3 with IWU BUTit looks like they lost 11 Seniors..Not sure how many were starters ?

Carthage, like many other programs, is expected "to have a down year" after every season. They do a great job developing their younger talent and make them game-ready by the time their turn rolls around.

People say the same thing about Chapman, Kean, (insert other traditional power here), and some programs just re-load every year. Too much is placed on what is lost, rather than what is returning.

Since Kean, Chapman and Carthage were not in Appleton in 2010, so as you know these programs consider it a down year, since anything less than a trip to Appleton to have a chance to play for the National Championship is not considered a good season.

Chapman lost both it's starting 3b and SS during the season and had to shift a 4 year starter from RF/CF to 3b.  Not an excuse but a fact that did impact its season along with running up against a very talented and well coached team with Linfield. There are indeed a new powerhouse in the west with getting to Appleton 2 of last 4 years and Chapman 5 of the last 6. Linfield beat Chapman 3 out of 5 games last year and will play Chapman 4 times in 2011 at their place. Should be a great series since Linfield eliminated them from the regionals last year in game played in heavy rain with being very cold and very windy but both teams had to play in that weather.

The issue I am seeing in the CCIW this year is tons of parity. I think the teams in the middle have significantly improved and pushed the top teams even harder. I see more than normal CCIW losses for the top 2-3 teams this year. It could really hurt them on the Pool C bid front.
