Central Region Rankings Based on NCBWA Top 25

1. Augustana
2. Carthage
3. IWU
4. North Park
5. Coe
6. Buena Vista

I actually think thats pretty good, except for maybe moving Augustana down a few. They started out hot last year and faded but that doesnt mean it will happen again.

I am intrigued my the Millikin at Illinois College game tomorrow. Illinois is off to a nice start, but if they wish to be taken as a contender in the region, they MUST beat Big Blue tomorrow.

BP, curious to know where you had IWU last week as they were #24 in the poll.  I know they went 5-0, but 5-0 against mediocre at best teams.

I guess 5-0 is 5-0.

I had IWU at #15 last week. 5-0 is nice but they would have moved a bit more had the competition been stiffer. I had Carthage at #23 last week.

Big Poppa's Central Region Rankings:(now that everyone seems to have 15-20 game under their belt, we can start to get a feel for each club and their relative strength)

1. Carthage 12-3 (only losses are to teams in top 5 nationionally)
2. Augustana 14-2 (not a ton of competition yet, but they keep winning)
3. Illinois Wesleyan 12-5 (typical early season stumbles appear to be out of the way already)
4. Webster 12-4 (here they go again... is there a SLIAC team to slow them down?)
5. North Park 16-5 (the region's wild-card team... always a threat)
6. Simpson 14-5 (6-0 in the IIAC)
7. North Central 10-5 (impressive weekend vs North Park pushed them way up... still struggle to get past the Rose-Hulman disaster))
8. WashU 19-11 (one of the nation's toughest schedules... will be a Pool B contender)
9. Coe 13-5 (need to right the IIAC stumbles and get on a roll)
10. Spalding 14-7 (I really wish they could play in SLIAC post-season... would be a great battle with Webster)
11. Luther 14-6 (Not sure what to think of this team... up and down so far)

BP, I am sure you were expecting this.  You have IWU @ 13, Carthage @ 14, and Augie @ 18 in the national poll, yet you have IWU 3rd behind these two teams.  Can you assume you will have some big changes in the national rankings next week.  What happened in your mind to make these changes?

Overall records vs in-region records. I am starting to look more at in-region stuff.

#492
1. Carthage 14-4 CCIW (Defense could be their downfall as they commit too many errors to keep overcoming them)
2. North Park 19-5 CCIW (Still not completely sold on this team yet, but they continue to win games)
3. Augustana 16-4 CCIW (read same as North Park's comments)
4. Ill Wesleyan 13-6 CCIW (2 CCIW losses and have yet to play Carthage, NPU, North Central or Augustana... tough spot for IWU to contend from)
5. Webster 15-4 SLIAC (Only obstacle in their way looks to be Spalding who cannot play in the post-season... advantage, Webster!)
6. Simpson 15-7 IIAC (Someone needs to step up and take this conference soon... it is getting dull to watch)
7. North Central 11-7 CCIW (will hit the soft part of their CCIW schedule soon and their record will jump)
8. Coe 16-7 IIAC (Same as Simpson)
9. Spalding 16-7 SLIAC (I really wish they could face the Gorloks with is all on the line in the SLIAC tourney)
10. Buena Vista 14-8 IIAC (Same as Simpson)
11. WashU 21-13 IND Will the be saved by their SoS? Losing in-region games to Luther and Coe will not help them)
12. Luther 15-8 IIAC (Same as Simpson)

Notably absent is any MWC team. What a mess of a conference right now. Not even sure where to start.

I do not disagree with your rankings.  Illinois Wesleyan has played Augustana twice this year though, with a split in Rock Island.

I fear that the loss to Wheaton could have a large impact later in the year.

TheSportsFan

It's hard to disagree with the rankings.  It appears that the IIAC is better than ever.  There is a very nice top tier of teams in this league, with the second tier being capable as well (and one really bad team).

IIAC is 70-41 in non-conference play = .631
CCIW is 65-37 in non-conference play = .637
SLIAC is 39-70 in non-conference play = .358
MWC is 51-76 in non-conference play = .402

It appears to be a two-conference region.  I agree that it would be nice if one of the IIAC teams pulled away and proved to be more elite than the other teams, but be careful not to connect a league that has a lot of parity with a league that doesn't have good/great teams.
