Zimmermann isn't the first and won't be the last guy to watch an Albert Pujols blast land closer to the parking lot than to home plate.  In a weird way it kind of makes him fully initiated now.

The first and still most accurate description of the D3 Championship BeltTM thread.

It's interesting... seeing Zimmerman now performing on the big stage when we saw him in Appleton just two years ago. D3 baseball gets to show off its talent more often than not, maybe its just the magic of the game, but its very interesting to be a part of.   Plus its also nice to pick up a guy like Jordan for fantasy baseball when not many people have actually seen him pitch.

Jordan with a rough 1st inn, (only), in last outing against LA.

Watching CBS News this evening, they had a segment on a guy named Venditi, who plays for one of the Yankees Minor league teams, who PITCHES TO THE SAME BATTER WITH BOTH ARMS!!!!

Right handed with good velocity, left handed with more "Junk".  He averages 2 SO's per inning if I remember correctly!!

Anyone else see this.? Aparently they have the Venditti Rule that Venditti has to declare which arm he will use for first pitch, then the batter can switch hit once, then has to stay in that side of plate thereafter.

Greg Harris did it in a big league game. When I was a head coach, I hired Greg as my pitching coach and he was amazing to watch as he could show guys things from BOTH sides!

Dan Kazrowski (Hamline) has signed with the St. Paul Saints. He made his first start this weekend and collected three hits, including a home run.

John McGraw

It wouldn't surprise me to see Vieira go back to Jamestown once the New York-Penn League starts. He missed part of the season with injuries last year and the Marlins may have just needed an extra left-handed arm in Jupiter. I think he'll eventually make it up there but again, I think he's bound for Jamestown again.

AlleyCat

Anybody know anything about Gardner from Ithaca? He was with Cincy last year.

I'd imagine he's still in the Reds system and will be spending the entire short-season season with the Billings Mustangs in the Pioneer League. He only made a couple of appearances last summer between the Gulf Coast League and Billings.

Tim Kiely from Trinity is currently 4-4 for the Rancho Quakes in A advanced.  His era is kind of high with a 4.65 but seems to be pitching better as of late.

Hammer Ball

I think a 4.65 ERA in the Cal League is not as bad as in almost all other leagues.  It is kind of the opposite of the FSL where a low ERA is not as worthy of mention as in most other leagues.

NESCAC_Watcher

The Cal. League has to be one of the most difficult league's in the country to pitch in.  Lancaster alone averages a 20 mile per hour wind blowing out (always blowing out based on its location) and 2 weeks ago it had sustained 40 mph winds....how can anyone pitch in that...That stadium is also the reason the Red Sox relocated from there this season...they couldn't get an accurate gauge on their prospects...hitter's numbers were inflated for the better, and pitcher's numbers were inflated for the worse...

Oh, man, what a quandary!

Zimmermann is pitching very well - only 3 hits and 2 runs through 5.  The problem for me is his opponent is one of my heroes: the Big Unit is going for #300, and so far has a 1-hit shutout going.

D3 or 300?? ;)

Zimmermann and Johnson both left after 6; now 2-1, Giants, in the 9th.  Since Z can't get the win anyway, I'm now rooting for Johnson to get #300.  (Since he is not fond of the press, I'd hate to put him thru more media-circus with 'trying for #300'!)
