Nice article on the front page by Ricky Nelson keeping tabs on the players in the minors.

Angeloni continues to do well in the Gulf Coast League.  In his last 10 appearances he's given up only 3 earned runs in over 21 innings (1.25 ERA) and has a WHIP under 1.0.

Chez's Rookie League numbers got him a promotion to short-season A ball with the Lowell Spinners (Boston Red Sox), a team loaded with D-3 guys.
A walk is never as good as a hit!

The Spinners had a series in Aberdeen this week, so we went up to have a look.  Sean Killeen caught and was 1 for 3 at the plate, and is hitting over .300 in his last 10 games.  His only weakness seems to be starting the ball around the horn after a strikeout (and the Spinners had 17 Ks in the game last night).  Fortunately, Lowell's third baseman is a big tall kid and he was able to leap for a couple of high throws, but one went into left field.  Sean made the necessary corrections by the 5th inning.  Drew Hedman did a very creditable job at first base.  He was 0 for 3 at the plate but hit the ball hard twice right at people.  He, too, is hitting around .300 in his last 10 games with 5 doubles.  Jeremiah Bayer came in to pitch in the 7th to set up the closer.  He worked out of a jam in the 7th and allowed no runs in the 7th and 8th.  It was interesting to see Bayer pitching to Killeen--the last time I saw that happen was in Appleton in 2008.  I was rooting for them last night, but I wasn't a year ago.  DiBenedetto, Dominguez and Angeloni didn't play, but we did see a lot of folks (coaches, players, parents) from Hopkins at the game to show Chez some support.  It would be great if more teams like the Red Sox would give some local kids from DIII schools a shot.

DIII alums, Chris Heisey and Tim Kiely will be playing in the Arizona Fall League, Kiely on the Mesa Solar Sox and Heisey on the Peoria Saguaros.  Not sure if there are other DIIIers playing in that league.

Dan Remenowsky (Otterbein) and the Kannapolis Intimidators clinched a spot in the South Atlantic League Playoffs tonight! Remenowsky got yet another save and the Intimidators eliminated their closest rival (West Virginia). Woohoooo!  :) ;) :D :) ;) :D

Remo: 7-3, 2.02 ERA, 24 SV, 62.1 IP, 39 H, 15 BB, 107 K, .175 AVG ... lol. That's silly.

Just found out per New York/Penn League website that 6 more D3 baseball alums are playoff bound-as members of the Lowell Spinners.

In AAA, Sacramento (PCL) and Scranton-Wilkes Barre and Louisville (Int'l League) have clinched postseason berths.  (DeNorfia, Heisey and Hirsh's squads, respectively).

Osh,

Many thanks for your regular updates on D-III players in Minor/Major LB!!

Looking forward to another season just over 6 months away ;D

The final stats are up for the Lowell Spinners.  The DIII guys still have quite a bit of work to do.

Chris Heisey (Peoria), Mike DeMark (Peoria) and Tim Kiely (Mesa) will play in the Arizona Fall League. See their links above.

Jack Taschner continues to rehab in Clearwater. He probably will not make the Phillies playoff roster, according to reports.

Jarrod Washburn visited Dr. Yocum on Tuesday. If the Tigers hang in there (I'm rooting for the Twins), Wash is now questionable for the playoffs. Reports say Wash is mulling his recovery options regarding his ailing knee.

Billy Wagner looks like the only sure thing as far as D3 guys in the MLB playoffs.

Matt Irsfield RHP (Chapman) signed by Padres will pitch in the fall
This... is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball.  "There are three types of baseball players: those who make things happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happened."

Speaking of Chapman, I see Ryan Cavan won the last Batter of the Week honor in the Northwest League. I also added him to the master list.

Osh,  Ryan Cavan actually started at Trinity, Tx. where he was all SCAC 1st Team as a freshman.  Then transferred to Chapman, then to UCSB.
Terrific player.
