Thanks, for the insight and opinions. I have heard of a kid paying ($3500) to go play for a month or so in Arizona do you know what that is all about?

No clue. Anywhere you need to pay to go play doesn't sound like too good an idea.

I agree.  Sounds like a money maker for someone.

The Frontier league has a 27 year old maximum age limit with the exception of one player under 30. They play a 96 game regular season schedule that runs from the middle of May thru the first week of September. This league is set up for the younger players that did not get drafted to get a chance to show what they can do at the next level. You will also see players that were drafted and were let go after a year or two in the minors organization on some of the rosters each year.

Here is a link for their players elgibility classifications:http://www.frontierleague.com/player_elig.php

My youngest son signed with the Florence, Ky team in June of 08 after graduation. An umpire from the HCAC conference that my son got to know during his four years of college knew the manager of the Florence team and asked him if my son could tryout for them. He was told to come back in a week after their road trip and they made some roster moves. He actually started the game pitching the same day he signed a contract and got the win.

You don't make much in this league, I think he made $600 dollars a month that first year and $700 last year. They do have host families that they live and when they are out of town they receive a meal money allotment per day.

He will sign again this year with the hopes of getting picked up by an affiliated minor league team.

nice work OshDude!

but what about Independent Leagues?! It may not be the Majors, but its prof. baseball!

RHP Sam Heaps (24-11, 3.06 ERA, 246 K's, 264.2 innings), Elizabethtown College 2006-2009...2008 & 2009 Conference Pitcher of the Year, singed a contract with the Normal Cornbelters out of the Frontier League...one of the better independents in the country.

I'm looking for other DIII players in Independents... that would be just as cool to follow up on them!

I learned the other day that Chuck Huggins(Trinity, Tx.) has received an invite to
the Blue Jays Major league camp.  He will will heading to Dunedin in about 2 weeks.
We'll start the NRI's there, then. Didn't see Huggins on the Jays list yet. Others:
C Anthony Recker (whom I've somehow missed for the past two years ... now on masterlist), A's
OF Chris Denorfia, Padres
P Jack Taschner, Pirates
P Joe Bateman, Rays

On 40-man rosters:
P Billy Wagner, Braves
P Nelson Figueroa, Mets
OF Chris Heisey, Reds
P Jordan Zimmermann, Nationals

Add to it when they're announced.
Vinny Rottino, Marlins
Erik Kratz, Pirates
Jason Hirsh, Yankees

The movement begins ... Chris Heisey was optioned to Triple-A (no surprise).
The following players were released this week:
Trinity (Conn.) 2B Tom DiBenedetto (Red Sox)
Whitewater P Greg Reinhard (Cubs)
Rochester/Tampa C Chris Rosenbaum (Angels)
John Carroll/Coastal Carolina OF Dom Duggan (Giants)

A bit surprised by Reinhard. He had a nice 2009.

The changes were made to the masterlist above.
