Pomona 1B Drew Hedman, Lowell (Red Sox).

Saw Drew Hedman's name on the Salem Red Sox roster.

With a little luck I could see Hedman, Bayer (not on the Salem roster) and Moreland when I see the Fredrick Keys play the Salem Red Sox in July.  Three previous player/[pitcher of the year awardees.

Congratulations to former UWO standout Jack Taschner for making the Pittsburgh Pirates opening day roster.  He pitched in the opener throwing 2/3 scoreless, striking out one.

Osh,
As you probably know, those still shown in last year's short season and rookie leagues are assigned to extended Spring Training.
In effect, they are battling for their baseball career until the June draft or an injury or some other issue provides a roster spot on a full season team.
Since they are not on a roster, they are not getting paid, but they are playing/competing every day.
Come June and the draft, they have 40-50 more players in the system competing for spots.
It is a very tough situation.
They really need some luck. Hopefully, some will get some.

Yeah, there's not much I can do with the list though. I could create another category, but it's too difficult on long posts with all the jumping around. There's a bug in the system somewhere.

From what I'm hearing many of the Rookie and Short Season guys have been released already. I'm just awaiting official word on most of them.

Nice to see a lot of our guys ascending the ladder. Too bad it's inevitable that we lose a bunch this spring as well.

Boy, I think you do a great job, really great!!
I'm betting everyone who posts here appreciates your time and effort to keep this updated.
From my experience, Milb is pretty accurate. If a player is still shown as active but not assigned to a current season roster, that means he is still with the club. He usually has not been released.
That leaves 2 options from there. One is he is playing in extended ST or he is on the D/L, not assigned to a roster, not playing in extended, but cannot be released while on the D/L. Milb and the MLB teams don't publish this anywhere, though.
I fully agree you cannot do much more that what you have posted about those who are active but not assigned to a roster.  They certainly can be released at any time and some are.  Others can get a bit lucky and have a roster spot open due to injury, retirement or something and get an assignment before the draft.
If they are still at extended when the draft occurs and are a college drafted player, it is not a good signal.

A pronounced Vista influence on that Cruiser roster with Kitchens, Esquibel, Andrews, and Hitting Coach Alvarez   8-)

The Reds called up Chris Heisey. He's 0-for-6 in two games. He started in RF and hit seventh against the Mets (Oliver Perez) on Monday.

Archie Gilbert was named the Texas League Offensive Player of the Week. From minorleaguebaseball.com:
Texas League
Archie Gilbert, Midland
.407/.484/.741, 11-for-27, 3 2B, 0 3B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 9 RS, 4 BB, 4 K, 3 SB
The RockHounds' center fielder has added some unexpected pop in his second go-round in the Texas League. At just 5-foot-8, Gilbert already has four home runs, exceeding his total from last season (three). Gilbert has had three of them in his last nine games, including two in the week that earned him Texas League Player of the Week. Gilbert had at least one hit in every game, including a three-hit performance on April 30 in San Antonio. Gilbert also managed to steal three bases and score nine runs. His .918 OPS for the season at Double-A is not bad progress for a player who was undrafted out of Cal State-East Bay in 2006.

Maybe I overlooked this name, but one I haven't seen is Zach Lutz (Alvernia) who is at AA Binghamton for the Mets.  Having a nice start to the year and I have read a couple of times that he is a legit prospect who could continue to move fast through the system.

Thanks! Remember having him on there before. Don't know what happened.

Former Texas Lutheran SS, Jacob Kaase just received word he'll be joining Rangers double affiliate Frisco this week. He's off to a solid start in Bakersfield (High A), particularly the last two weeks (.355 avg). Perhaps the most notable statistic is that he's slowly starting to increase the BBs, while decreasing the Ks.

He's yet to make an error yet this year.

That's great news.

Reds OF Chris Heisey has been getting spot starts and batting leadoff against LHP's. He hit his first HR against the Pirates' Jeff Karstens in Johnny Cueto's one-hitter last Tuesday. He started again today, facing Brewer Manny Parra.
