The Kalamazoo Kings are in the Frontier League. The FL is independent baseball with no affiliatin to a MLB team. We had a player make the initial roster, but then was cut just prior to their first game.

OshDude,
As you are updating, Blue Jay draftee Chuck Huggins has been promoted to the AA New Hampshire Fishercats of the Eastern League.
Was in Appleton most of the past week. Didn't get much computer time while I was there. I'll get back on it this week.

MLB First-Year Player Draft begins on Monday.  Who will be the first D3 player taken?
A walk is never as good as a hit!

Former St. Joe's (ME) and LSU pitcher Charlie Furbush was named last week's FSL Pitcher of the Week.

Movement on the list above during the past two weeks or so. See the list for schools and teams.

Nelson Figueroa was waived by the Mets and is now in Triple-A with the Phillies.
Erik Arnesen moved from Double-A to Triple-A.
Mike DeMark from Double-A to Triple-A.
Jeff Gogal from Double-A to High-A (he's working his way back after a long DL stint).
Ryan Kulik from Double-A to Triple-A.
Kenny Moreland from High-A to A.
Cole Kimball from High-A to Double-A.
Chuck Huggins from High-A to Double-A.
Joe Paterson from High-A to Triple-A (I think he's also made this leap in past years).

The Royals promoted St. Norbert SS Adam Frost from Low-A to High-A. In the past three years Frost has gone from drafted to the Rookie leagues to A ball to released to indy ball to signed to Low-A to High-A.

#321
The D-backs sent Alex Herrnberger from extended spring to fill a roster spot in Triple-A.

EDIT: Also, Chuck Huggins from Double-A back to High-A after two shaky starts. And the Nats released Chris Coste. He'd been on the DL all season and is reportedly leaning toward announcing his retirement.

The Pirates designated Jack Taschner for assignment.

In the meantime Taschner will pitch today for the Giants – the Oshkosh Giants of the Wisconsin State Baseball League. He's scheduled to pitch a bit in both ends of a DH against the Addison Braves.

OshDude,
In one of those  magical stories, Jeff Taylor Jr. of Lynchburg College signed with Cincinnati as a free agent.
Sounds like Jeff will be playing for their short season team in the AZL.
For those who don't know, Jeff's father, who posted here as JT, was killed last April in a tragic accident.  Jeff Sr. was throwing BP to a group of Lynchburg players after the season ended but in contemplation they would play in a Regional.
He was struck by a line drive and killed.
I had emailed many, many times with Jeff Sr. about DIII players and the route to Summer Leagues and what was involved in getting drafted, playing and competing in Milb.  Baseball was  his love and his son playing college baseball at Lynchburg  was a joy of his life.
Jeff Taylor Jr. will surely have an angel watching him this Summer.
I know he will also have plenty of posters on DIII baseball cheering him along that path.

Awesome news, infielddad! As much as we all root for the others, Jeff will get a little extra from me.

For everyone else, there will be many NDFA's in the next few weeks. I hope to catch all of the D3'ers, but chances are I won't. If you see or hear of one, please pass it along.

The following are on the Triple-A all-star ballot. Like the MLB ballot, fans can vote up to 25 times. There's also a place to – wink – write in candidates.

SP: Jason Hirsh
RP: Joe Bateman
C: Erik Kratz, Anthony Recker
OF: Chris Denorfia

Wooster 2010 grad, Matt Johnson has signed a free agent contract with the Toronto Bluejays.
He will be assigned to the Auburn Doubledays of the class A NY-Penn league.
Good luck Matt.

Any news of other DIII players signing free agent contracts?

Five 2010 draftees have links. Two shortstops, Kelson Brown and Nick Robinson, will start in Short Season A. Derek Eitel, Eric Groff and Chris Jarrett will be teammates at Missoula in Rookie ball.

TLU alum, Jake Kaase, had an interesting stat line for a AA hitter on Friday:

1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

Kaase is hitting .300 for the Rough Riders since his promotion.
