Nick Vera does not show up on Milb.  But he is still with the Cardinals.  He was placed on the DL after the first week of the NY/PENN season in 2008

I can't find James Dougher on Milb either.
He was in the Jays organization and had a good season at Low A Lansing, MI.
He does not show up on the BA lists as having been released or retired, either.
Any thoughts?

Infielddad - I went to the Lansing Lugnuts website and clicked on league transactions. Looked through the different months and found that on Sept. 4 it says Dougher was removed from roster. Don't know if he was demoted or let go out right.

Off Greenville Drive web site:

06/01/2008 Matt Cooney  Transferred to Lowell (Short-A)
The MiLB site says Cooney's been released. He wasn't on the Lowell roster as of September. Found this and this also saying he was released in January.

Osh,

AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR FOLLOW UP AND LOOKING DEEPER INTO TO COONEY SITUATION.  HE WAS A PRETTY GOOD DEFENSIVE CATCHER, BUT A LITTLE WEEK AT THE BAT.

GOOD LUCK TO YOUR UWO BOYS THIS YEAR.  ROOTING FOR UWO OR ANOTHER WIAC TEAM TO BRING THE HOARDS BACK TO APPLETON THIS YEAR :)

Oshdude- thanks for the list of D3 players in the bigs, i always like checking up on D3 players, espically NE ones.

Anyone have any idea on if Tip Fairchild is still playing in the Houston System.  I know he has battled some injuries lately and i was wondering if he was going to end up back in Double A

KSC,
Other than Zimmerman and maybe 3-4 others, there isn't a single one of these kids who knows whether they will have an assignment come April or be out of baseball. Even Jack Taschner has some uncertainty, but his is more likely where he pitches in MLB, not whether. I think he will remain with the Giants but they have a lot of pitching..a lot of lefties, too.
Probably close to 1/2 of them will be out of baseball.
About the first week in March, those who received a contract for the upcoming year will report to Spring Training.
For about 3 weeks, they will compete with about 180 other players/pitchers for about 100 rosters spots that will be assigned at AAA, AA, High A and Low A. There are also about 25 or so in the MLB camp who don't make the 25 man roster and they drop down to the Milb camp on a constant basis.  So, there are roughly 200 competing for 100 roster spots come April.

For the 100 or so who do not get a spot on a roster, most will be released.  Others  will get assigned to extended Spring Training with their baseball career extended to the draft and short season assignments.

Thanks for the well rounded info infielddad, Much appreciated

Yep, that list above will definitely be shorter in a month or so. I'll edit it as contracts are tendered.

Added to the list. Anyone else out there? I'm sure we don't have them all.

Erik Arnesen from Grove City is in the Nationals organization

Besides the guys already listed as big leaguers above, DeSalvo and Zimmerman are in camps as non-roster invitees.
