Alfred University rang the opening bell on the NASDAQ stock exchange yesterday morning.

Too cool! AU Trustees were meeting in Manhattan and someone had arranged the NASDAQ visit...perhaps AU Trustee Joel Moskowitz, CEO of Ceradyne, Inc.

One of Pep's student workers at Herrick Library, who heads up the student group that runs Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF), meets with the trustees and was with the Alfred group at NASDAQ. Earlier in the week, he was on the floor at NYSE with a College of Business class. The kid works wonders with investments. Pep is thinking maybe he has a future on Wall Street.

Last night, on our "lapa" in Gaborone - a real, live Professor of Anthropology.  As she'd stopped over with the Global AIDS Director, I asked her if she was from Atlanta (CDC) to which she replied, "no - a small town in Indiana, Greencastle.  Have you heard of it?"  Just answered her, "47-0" and grinned.

Her jaw temporarily dropped, then laughing she said - "please, don't even say it..."  and opens her bush shirt to reveal a DePauw "T".  "Heh, heh - Wabash, m'am and your shirt is missing the common name of those birds that return to Capistrano."  ;D  Great evening of laughs and suspect she'll be back from "the Bush" to visit a few times during her research sabbatical - not many DIII types over here among the stuffed shirt, Ivy elites at the Embassy.

Four people - four schools represented over braai and beer in Botswana - Smith, Defiance, DePauw, and 'Bash.

I was heading out to the local pharmacy on Saturday and grabbed my Linfield ball cap as I went through the garage.  When I got to the pharmacy, I thought I was in for the thrill of my life when the pharmacist began to unbutton her lab coat.  Alas, she only wanted to show me the Willamette logo on her polo shirt.  She did her undergraduate work at Willamette then came to the University of Iowa for pharmacy school.

Dickinson College and University of Texas-Arlington bumper stickers on the same car in Dallas, TX.

That probably means there is an interesting story behind that.

Loras College ball cap and sweatshirt on an older gentleman at the Village SuperSpar grocery in Gaborone, Botswana.  No chance to speak as in checkout lane with "Dragon Lady" during pre-Easter buying blitz.

Old Ford LTD with Glassboro State, Trenton State and Jersey City State college bumper stickers.  For those from or around NJ this car had the old blue plates and it looked like blue hair driving.
