So my wife and I were visiting old D3 friends in Des Moines this past weekend... Huge outdoor art fair on Friday night, Huge farmers market on Saturday... I people watched my way thru 1000's of people, all the while looking for a D3 shirt... I figured I was in the heart of Iowa Athletic Conference territory, and amidst some of the Midwest Conf schools, even kind of close to the SLIAC's Iowa Wesleyan....WOE IS ME... NOT A SINGLE D3 jersey spotted... the closest thing to D3 I saw was a Waldorf University shirt.. No Simpson, Central, Loras or the rest... What a Disappointment... (though I was reminded of old home days when I spotted a South Haven, Michigan tshirt....)

As in the Webster University Gorlocks? Seems like ages ago now, but Pep's Saxons edged the Gorlocks in an earlier matchup in Sports Illustrated's Campus Rush Division III Best Mascot Tournament.

The Saxons are on the verge of capturing the national championship, currently leading the Vixens of Sweet Briar College by a 58% to 42% margin with voting to wrap up tomorrow morning.

I spent 8 days at the USA Track & Field Olympic trials at the University of Oregon. I was surprised at the number of d3 shirts I saw. There were a number from area schools, but I also saw De Pauw Lacrosse, Occidental T&F, Cal Lutheran, Salisbury, Tufts t&f, Hampden-Sydney, Roanoke College, North Central t&f, Delaware Valley, Wartburg, Catholic, Oberlin, Carleton, and talk to the assistant track coach from St. Joseph's College-Maine. He was sporting his shirt and found out he is a Wittenberg alum. I also saw an MIT alum license plate frame as I drove down I-84 in the Columbia river Gorge.

After a weekend in Door County, Wi. watching my daughter participate in a half Ironman Triathlon.

1.  Benedictine shirt on a female who sat behind on me a ghost tour.
2.  Elmhurst Lacrosse sticker on the window of a car at the hotel.
3.  Wisconsin schools included UW-La Crosse, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Whitewater and UW-Stout.
